Callum Morton is back with us after his loan and Joe Wright has gone back to Millwall Morton was on a season long loan. It will be interesting to see if he stays with us or if we only recalled him to weaken a relegation rival. As weak as our team has been I'm not convinced he could do a job for us.

Callum Morton is back with us after his loan and Joe Wright has gone back to Millwall So with Callum Hendry due back either this weekend or next and Callum Morton and Odin Bailey recalled it almost feels like we've signed three new players already in the January transfer window (assuming Bailey is included which given his form at Stockport I would think he is a shoe-in unless sold in the meantime)!

I hoped we would show a bit more ambition but given our current situation I guess it's inevitable we cant

Nothing personal but I've yet to talk to any fellow fan who thinks he's anywhere near good enough for us considering he's in his third season with the club!

Nothing personal but I've yet to talk to any fellow fan who thinks he's anywhere near good enough for us considering he's in his third season with the club! I think I mentioned in one post that most of our players are not improving and this goes towards proving my point. Ok, so Dackers never gets a run in the team, but it has to be a two-way deal. He has to show he's good enough and when he gets his chance.....take it. I mean him no ill will, but he's not a league player. His skills haven't moved beyond non-league for all the time we've had him.

He's symptomatic of another of our issues. We seem to have a policy of picking up young players who have been discarded by other clubs and giving them a 2nd chance. I get that you might find the odd hidden gem but BTA aside, who else have we picked up, developed and either turned into a regular first team player or sold on and they've done well. I genuinely can't think of one, maybe another example of our stubborn owners refusing to see they don't know better than everyone else?

Salford City welcomes Jez Davies to the Club as our first permanent January signing! Jez joins the Ammies after a spell at Burnley, and is looking forward to challenging himself in League Two. The midfielder started his career in grassroots football where he was spotted by Leyton Orient, and later signed for Tottenham Hotspur. He made the move up north in December 2022 and has featured regularly for the Clarets’ Under-21s, but now the 19-year-old is keen to make the next step up in his development. www.salfordcityfc.co.uk/news/2024/january/24/jez-davies-signs-for-salford/I know nothing of Davies but a 19 year old midfielder recently with 2 Premier League academies? This is the kind of signing that shows ambition and planning for the future!

On the other hand Karl Robinson is well known for giving youth a chance if they're good enough.

He did talk about stepping up to men's football so I guess he's for the first team with an eye to the future. Lund I expect will leave in summer. Ashley has managed 20 minutes since September and Mallan is MIA so I'm sure he will get game time.

He's been assigned number 19 which, along with the 9 posts about him on our official Twitter account, indicates the owners expect him to receive minutes. Perhaps they are already lining up a deal(s) for outgoing midfielders? The only thing I find troubling, and this is no indictment of Davies, is his comment "I’m buzzing to be here, start a new journey here, meet my team mates and the Gaffer." I understand that our ownership believes we should have a head coach and not a manager but to sign players without even allowing Robinson to meet them worries me.
