Let’s be honest….we didn’t need a separate thread for this topic did we? The window opens next week so hopefully some movement after that

Rumours that Touray is going to Stockport on a free, hopefully we can bring in an upgrade if he does go Ironically he probably had one of his best games for us for a long time in the second leg of our play off semi-final at Edgeley Park last month!

Rumours that Touray is going to Stockport on a free, hopefully we can bring in an upgrade if he does go That would be devastating news. As far as upgrade. Our recruitment is so hit or miss, I would rather stick with the ever present, always available (apart from international duty) Ibou. I would like the club to make an effort to keep him. Stockport are an ambitious well funded club. If the rumour is true they obviously see him as a cog in their promotion wheel.

There's no doubt that Ibou Touray has been a great servant of the club during his stay with us which began at the start of season 2017/18 in the National League North and while he has made a very valuable contribution to the clubs rise up the league's I think that now is probably the right time for him to move on given his overall form over the last couple of seasons since signing a 2 year extension to his contract in mid June 2021 which saw him holding out for a much improved offer up until virtually the last minute which I believe made him one of our better paid players. His fast raiding runs down the left wing have since seen him too often frustratingly stop at a certain point of the field - usually at the half way line - and pass the ball backwards resulting in a loss of momentum and initiative thus allowing the opposition to regroup in numbers. His defensive positioning has been questionable this season coupled with his attempts at crosses which have more often than not have failed to either reach or find his team mates and his frustrating inability to do anything other than stand on his right leg has been a major source of irritation to many supporters. A lack of any sort of available competition to challenge his place in the team has seemingly never been seriously considered or even been put in place (other than perhaps Kevin Berkoe and recently Shane McLoughln for a very short time) and he has always been the automatic choice for the left back berth which perhaps suggests that my criticism of him is unfounded. There's no doubt that over the years he has given his all for the club but I honestly believe that we've had the best of his years despite, as I mentioned in an earlier post, his impressive performance in our final game of the season at Stockport. I think the time is right for both him and us and I wish him (but not his new team) nothing but success in the future.

I thought we were a close knit group, now the Skipper jumps ship for those horrible neighbours.? No signings, no season ticket information think I will pack it in and go back to watching non-league

Great servant, but the time to change is the correct decision in my opinion.

Looking at Stockport fans social media reaction to the signing of Ibou Touray from us only confirms again their delusional sense of self importance. Judging by their reaction one would think that they'd signed Denis Irwin in his prime and suggesting that our club is falling apart, the owners are losing their interest as well as displaying a lack of ambition by allowing our longest serving defender and captain to go a rival club! While I fully acknowledge Ibou's contribution to SCFC over the years the numerous posts (mine included) over the last couple of years on this forum regarding his performances fully vindicates our decision to allow him to leave.

There's a few of them on Twitter mouthing off too. They really think they are something they're not, last time I looked they are in the same division as us rather than gearing up for a tilt at the Champions League. Touray has been a fine servant but it would be hypocritical of me not to acknowledge that, along with others of our support, I have called out his standards which have slipped over the last 18 months or so. I was very surprised he made the L2 team of the year, it can only be based on his assist stats as he didn't stand out in general play in my opinion.
We now have an opportunity to bring in a LB or wing back who can offer better defensive qualities as well as an attacking threat. It's no coincidence that many teams looked to target the left side of our defence last season as there was a definite weakness there. I'm looking forward to seeing who comes in and how we set up. Also who gets picked as captain as he was hardly the most inspiring we've had.

The most silent captain we’ve ever had. A captain needs to be vocal. He has to fire up the team, especially when losing. He doesn’t and we have real leaders on that pitch who are staying with us.
When a ball is played towards him in the final third, he has to stop it before he has the confidence to cross.
All our players and others will do is push him inside onto his right foot and that’s the attack over. He’ll pass it back.
Frequently goes missing when defending. Ok, we can’t expect him to be everywhere, but drifts into the middle leaving a massive gap on the left, as he points as if to say….who’s marking him! You are Ibby old chap….you are!
Either he regarded his talents higher than we did (and wanted money we weren’t prepared to pay him) or we didn’t really want him or tried t9 lower his wages. But I’m not sorry he’s gone. I think he’s struggled at League 2 level and as said, his inclusion in the League 2 team isn’t a reflection of what we saw on the pitch.

Between Tom King potentially joining Wolves (as a 3rd choice) and Ibou going County not sure what’s a bigger surprise. Played a lot of games for the club and his contribution was significant, but last season it was clear we needed reinforcements at LB.
There is options out there, inc Wellen’s lad who is leaving United. My only reservation right now is if Liam Shepherd goes and we find ourselves in a situation like last season when Turnbull left. We couldn’t get an upgrade in or someone who could stay fit enough to be a consistent partner to Vassell.

Alex Cairns returns on a permanent basis after his loan last season.

Personally very happy to see Alex Cairns sign as a permanent player. He knows the gaffer, other players and set up and will fit seamlessly back into the squad. Apart from that I also think he's a very decent keeper despite the goals against column last season which I put down to less than satisfactory performances by others in front of him.

He's well-balanced mentally and (well... there are some troubled goalkeepers playing out there. ) and doesn't flap when under pressure. Showed some great distribution in games. And happy to stay on after matches to chat with/be photographed with the fans. Yeah, well pleased with our first 'new' signing. Nice one, Alex!
