Hes been injured and without sounded to billy big shoes Mikes far too good for the level that Heys are at at the min. He gets caught of side alot as his runs just dont get anticipated so ends up looking like a lemon he needs to play higher up evo prem or similar 👍

Great news about Scott. I wouldn't have made the other signing if we go up we will need better just my opinion. . If we go up or stay down we'd still probably need to carry at least 4 forwards as a full time team. Last season we had Webber, Hulme, Poole, Seddon and Richie Allen popped up with 20 odd goals. It would make no sense at all to not offer our top scorer a deal if we went up as even with Phenix and Hulme I think we'd still need another 2. Look, I'm fully supportive of every player who dons a Salford shirt but I can understand where returntosender is coming from. Okay so Pheno is our top scorer but let's be honest it's now 12 games since he's last found the back of the net and he's yet to score twice in any game this season. There's no doubt he has an eye for goal - his across the keeper shot being a speciality - and holds the ball up well when we wants to but his infuriariting habit of always looking for a free kick when he should be using his body strength to stay on his feet really does annoy me. Jordan Hulme used to be like that but thankfully has moved on. Perhaps on our Manager's instructions? I think Saturday's game at Harrogate really proved we really needed an out and out goal getter with the right positional sense to take advantage of the amount of chances we created.

The point remains the same though, had we not kept Phenix then we'd then have to go and sign potentially 3 new forwards (if Poole and Hine aren't staying)!

I can see the merits in all the posts on this. Phoenix isn't as prolific as we'd like, but strikers that are, are VERY expensive. God knows what the lad at Fylde is earning? The gaffers will have a budget and we shouldn't get carried away that full time = paying silly wages. So we'll end up with a mix of 'star' players and some younger ones IMO of course.
Phenix......would win far more free kicks if he stopped tugging his opponents shirt. He also needs the service if he is going to be prolific. Yes, he can hold the ball up, but for who? There's no point in a striker that plays outside the box and holds the ball up. We have the players who can provide the service. We need our striker to be waiting for that ball played in.

Also, he often finds himself being pushed into wide positions. When he crosses the ball, it's to a position where he'd normally be. Obviously, he's not quick enough to cross a ball for himself. Therefore, other players have to take responsibility and see that the centre forward is out on the wing and then make a run to get into the centre for the cross. Rarely does this happen and the ball usually gets headed clear by an unchallenged defender.

Which leads us back to an out and out striker with a real eye for goal such as the likes of Steve Foster, Jack Redshaw and Gareth Seddon. Sometimes you have to push the boat out money wise if you're looking for the real deal and if we are serious at achieving our ultimate goal then we should be going all out to do what's necessary. Obviously we don't want to be held to ransom but you have to pay to get the best. That applies in all walks of life - not just football!

In a much higher standard of play this season we've not had the luxury of four players scoring 20 plus goals this time around. Thank goodness for the likes of defenders Michael Nottingham and Simon Grand! With Pooley's commitments as a scout for Manchester City - I'll not throw in his injuries as I think he's been really unlucky with them this season - I'm not really sure if he'll be with us next season which would be a big loss as on top form he really is an influential player and I think his absence has been sorely missed. I honestly can't see Josh Hine staying with his miss at Harrogate on Saturday summing up exactly why!

We are bringing eight in for next season. You would think who ever they are, they are playing at an higher level than we are at present. As to Mike Phenix I personally don't think he is good enough it's as simple as that.

I believe that six have already signed up. Looking forward to hearing who they are and let's hope it includes a proven goal scorer!

Well if that's true that will inspire the squad even further

Well if that's true that will inspire the squad even further I don't believe it will have any effect one way or another. It's obvious as players either leave of their own accord or not that we will - as we do every season - bring in new recruits to both strengthen and to fill out the squad. I'm glad that we haven't waited till the close season as any delay in doing the deals might well have seen our 'targets' approached by other interested parties. Also the quicker we finalise our squad for next season the more time our management will have to work with them. It makes good sense to me!

If we've signed six players previously unconnected with the club, that's got to be good news. It means that these players are likely to be first choices of the gaffers, rather than us being left to pick up what we can get, late on in the close season. It also stops them being poached by others. Hopefully, it gives the team a better chance to bond for the new season.
