We were stood at the back to the far left of the stand. We did have a decent position in the middle but a group of scallys who I've never seen before decided it was acceptable to stand in front of us, completely obscuring the view. It was only one chant sung once ("we are tangerine" repeated four times). One of the problems with the atmosphere, aside from the players hardly giving anybody anything to shout about, was that the one's who do cheer and sing were scattered about among the many who don't (and, like you say, it was the uncovered end). I was stood to your left and as said earlier it was embarrassing. Support your team The correct way rather than trying to have divisions. I have been through the green and gold with united and it doesn't benefit anyone Who did you expect to join in? I don't know how you could have been stood to our left, as we were as far left as you could get in that stand. And please enlighten me as to how one supports a team in the correct way? Is it sitting on your hands and doing nothing? I'm sorry if ten seconds of an old song interrupted silence. Perhaps you should stop getting embarrassed so easily. You also make out as if you have been shot down for an opinion. Well, frankly, that sh*t doesn't wash with me. You've more than stated your opinion. Do you just expect everyone to agree with you and if they don't you whine about people disagreeing? Jog on. TD started this thread and you responded shooting him down, and now you're doing the same to me, so don't moan because a couple of others have done the same to you because they disagree with you. Everyone on this post has expressed their opinion. Expressing an opinion doesn't make anything fact, nor does it mean that others can't have a different one and have equal right to express it, even if it is at odds with your own. No, I wasn't trying to "impress the scallys," by the way. I'd already moved away from them so that I could actually see the game, which is the primary reason that I go to watch Salford. You mention the green and gold at United. Wasn't that some kind of protest that fizzled out. Who on here has said that they are protesting anything by wearing tangerine?

So singing "tangerine Army" was for who's benefit exactly? Who was singing "tangerine army"?

I thought they were singing 'terrine army'......and perhaps they were Meat Loaf fans? 🤔

Gosh, what a fantastically interesting tweet. Though why us die-hard elitists, as you call us, would need to know what colour we play in is beyond me. Maybe some of the tourists could check it out. They might know who to cheer for then.
So by your logic, the fans have to wear red tonight and then white on Saturday? Does it have to be the current season's kit, too? Or else we might embarrass ourselves.
This probably wouldn't be an issue if we hadn't changed colours. Plenty of fans wear older kits at games. I saw loads of Stockport fans wearing shirts from the 90s on Saturday. Are they an embarrassment, too? Maybe they're protesting that they're not as high up in the league anymore.
You're the embarrassment, Slowboat.

Not as elite as you think you are You can wear whatever you want just don't start with your pathetic songs looking for a rise from the owners or "the tourists" See you still haven't answered the question behind the motivation for the song Maybe we could start singing for past managers and chairmen to really piss people off "Darren Quicks Tangerine Army"....anyone?

Ha ha, yeah. You've really got me there. Good one. Are you saying that Salford have no attendees that might be considered tourists or something similar? Well, we do, and you're deluded if you think otherwise. Still, they pay their money just the same as anyone else, so I guess they're entitled not to cheer. But guess what? That gives me an entitlement to cheer, chant, and sing. And who made you the song police anyway? Furthermore, I believe you'll find that you have failed to address or answer many questions / points made to you on this thread. One last thing. If you wish to interpret the first paragraph of this post as a sweeping statement condemning all fans who came post-takeover, then that's your mistake. I'm not really obliged to explain and justify to you.

You could easily shut down the elitist / embarrassment comment with an answer to what you were trying to achieve singing that song but you know as do I, what the real answer is...
"Andy Herald/Chris Thompson's super orange army"... Repeat at least four times tomorrow night... Even better if we all stand behind the dug outs and sing it. As you will get a bigger reaction

As you will get a bigger reaction Can you confirm which song it was as I don't recall anyone singing "tangerine army"? There was a song sung on Saturday about the old colours for a few seconds but I can't remember which it was. It obviously really upset you though. And whilst I respect each person's right to express an opinion, I'm not going to apologise because to be frank, it's a bit of a pathetic thing to be upset about. Also, can I just ask what, in you opinion, motivates any fan to sing an old song at a game? Nostalgia maybe? Despite poor attendances, and performances from years gone by we still have fond memories. Since you were paying a lot of attention to what we were singing you must have also heard us singing songs about our current players and management. Also, can I just ask why are you so upset about a small group of fans singing the odd song for a few seconds about yesteryear anyway? I mean, what harm has it actually caused you? Would you also have a go at Man Utd fans for singing about Cantona? I mean after all, by your logic, that might upset Rooney or Ibrahimovic because Cantona doesn't play for them anymore. Or songs about Ferguson or Busby because they might upset "the special one" (he has got a huge ego after all)? Nobody was trying to get a rise out of anyone. But I wouldn't blame them if they did now. I'm finding all this a bit childish now anyway. You mentioned in a previous post you've lived in Salford for 50 odd years, but despite your age, I think you have a lot of growing up to do. I'm just going to keep on supporting the club, in any way I see fit, like everyone else, old and new, and if that upsets you or anyone else then boo hoo.

Not elitist but singing we are tangerine! Just like the ones still wearing the tangerine kit to games you come across like that. Ok you have been supporting the club a number of years.. Guess what it means nothing. I am born and bred Salford and lived here for 56 years... That means nothing either You all come across as you think you are a superior supporter than everyone else! You will say you don't but that's exactly how you are behaving and seen! I wouldn't mind but Salford is your 8th or 9th club! The club is trying to move on, and you and your cronies should try to also embracing the additional support. Or would you prefer to go back to just the 47 before the class of 92 took over? Never mind not being happy! It was embarrassing They might have elitist fans at OT but we don't have them at Moor Lane.We just have fans. You mention 47 well if their hadn't been that many you might not have a team support now.

I must be as childish as Gaz then based on Tangerine Dreams post
The comparison with united ex play songs.... So were the united board and Fergie at the time he was there happy with the fans taking on the green and gold.... No it just created divisions...., which is what that little group on Saturday tried to do

As you will get a bigger reaction I'm really starting to wonder whether slowboat is our old mate SalfordTan aka DarloTan under a new identity. His purpose for posting on this forum was always to be divisive and to cause as much mischief as possible!
I not even going to be drawn into this tit for tat conversation as I've said all I want to say about my various opinions on this and our previously two now defunct forums. Presumably never having posted before - unless of course he is our old adversary - it is very interesting and indeed heartening to know that our one line chant has finally brought this long standing supporter to grace us with his pearls of wisdom. I would also like to correct the above post by saying that we played in tangerine and not orange and as far as I can recall we've never had an Andy Herald in charge. I do however remember a certain Andy Heald and like his co-manger Chris Thompson they were both very fine upstanding fellows.
As it now appears that we have to seek permission to wear anything other than regulation drill, would it be alright for me to wear my red shirt at Irlam tomorrow night and maybe - if I REALLY want to be elitist and vastly superior - my green and white striped shirt at Stockport on Saturday? GREEN ARMY!!!

Just answer the question as to what you were expecting to gain from singing it if you were not doing it for a reaction? You even started a thread drawing attention to your little band almost pleased with yourselves!
It was YOU who said Gary wasn't happy. No one else, so Why do you think he would be unhappy at such a "funny and harmless" chant?
The only people trying to be decisive are that small group. Channel your support in the right way and we could go further than ever before - we may even play Oldham one day!!
Oh and great come back on the spelling check. I will be more careful in the future or will eventually figure out how to turn spell check on this new Samsung

Just answer the question as to what you were expecting to gain from singing it if you were not doing it for a reaction? You even started a thread drawing attention to your little band almost pleased with yourselves! We sang it because we wanted to. Simple as that. We also chanted "Red Army", "Bernard and Jonno's Red And White Army", "Sing Up If You Love Salford". "Salford Till I Die", "We Love You Salford", "Come On Salford", "Super Scotty Burton" and "We're Having A Party If Billy Scores". None of which have been obsessed over as much as "We Are Tangerine".It was YOU who said Gary wasn't happy. No one else, so Why do you think he would be unhappy at such a "funny and harmless" chant? Has readily admitted in the recently published book "Class of '92 - Out Of Their League" that he doesn't like the colour tangerine and perhaps doesn't want that part of our history being brought up time and again. Each to their own I suppose. I neither really know or care but would perhaps suggest that you ask him yourself next time the opportunity arises.
The only people trying to be decisive are that small group. Channel your support in the right way and we could go further than ever before - we may even play Oldham one day!! Believe you me, I'm very 'decisive' when it comes to following my team.! I have barely missed a home or away game over the last nine years, have spent a small fortune in the process, have bought every kit available as well as scarves and badges and other assorted SCFC clothing, have bought club lottery and raffle tickets, have sponsored shirts as well as contributing to the bar and refreshment hut takings as well as writing articles in every matchday programme over a six year period. If that's not the right way of channeling my support then please tell me where I am going wrong. As for playing Oldham - bring it on! Would love the opportunity of putting one over them!!Oh and great come back on the spelling check. I will be more careful in the future or will eventually figure out how to turn spell check on this new Samsung
