......... following the "we are tangerine" chant from a small band of long standing Ammies supporters at the game today of which I am proud to include myself. Don't anyone take this the wrong way but I was personally delighted to see close on 500 fans in the Salford end today and would love to see that as the norm rather than the exception but the lack of participation by so many prompted the chant as we we used to have a better atmosphere at away grounds when there was only a dozen or so of us following the team in the days when the team where decked out in tangerine and black. It wasn't intended as any sort of protest but was simply a reaffirmation of support for the the team we have followed with pride for many years.
I am not elitist and genuinely welcome the increase in support but football is all about passion and involvement - so let's all show that we care and let's support the team through thick and thin by even occasionally joining in with the odd chant or two. And while my blood and shirt that I wear are red - my heart is and will always be very much tangerine. Salford till I die!

Not elitist but singing we are tangerine! Just like the ones still wearing the tangerine kit to games you come across like that. Ok you have been supporting the club a number of years.. Guess what it means nothing. I am born and bred Salford and lived here for 56 years... That means nothing either
You all come across as you think you are a superior supporter than everyone else! You will say you don't but that's exactly how you are behaving and seen!
I wouldn't mind but Salford is your 8th or 9th club!
The club is trying to move on, and you and your cronies should try to also embracing the additional support. Or would you prefer to go back to just the 47 before the class of 92 took over?
Never mind not being happy! It was embarrassing

Circumstances willing I will continue to watch the team home and away irrespective of whatever league we are in, whoever are owners or management are and whatever colours we may decide to play in the future. If that makes me superior in anyway then I stand guilty as accused. I don't have to justify my actions to anyone least of all to someone whose first ever post on this forum is to come and have a go at fans for their unstinting support for a club they have passionately followed for many years and who just happen to want to wear a tangerine shirt now and again. As far as I know there are no dress regulations and everyone is entitled to wear whatever kit they want be it a United, City, Salford Reds Rugby or any of the other variations of Ammies tops that are now regularly seen at both home and away games.
I am absolutely delighted that we are at long last taking larger numbers away - as well as seeing our homes gates massively increase - and have made many new acquaintances over the last couple of seasons so please don't try to insinuate or tell me that I'm personally elitist or superior in anyway as I find that accusation wholly insulting. What I would like to hear and see though is a much better atmosphere in support of the boy's from a larger section of people irrespective of how long they have following the team.
Incidentally I have only worn my tangerine shirt once from memory since the start of last season. Perhaps this coming weekend would be ideal time to give it another airing! As for Salford being my 8th or 9th club please enlighten me further.

TD, as you know I'm with you on this, and what you have said in both your posts pretty much sums up my take on it.
This club has a history that dates back to 1940, and I bet there's hardly anyone still alive, never mind still going, who was involved in any way shape or form in those inaugural years. So the club has history that precedes us all. That said, the club's history didn't start in 2014 with the takeover or in late October 2015 with the documentary closely followed by televised cup games. Some people have been going longer than this; some haven't. Both are generally fine. However, I am proud to have been a part of the last ten-plus years following the club, and just because the majority are late joiners, I shouldn't have to hide that face in case I upset someone. If I choose to wear my older kit, then that's nothing to do with anyone else. If I choose to wear one of the newer kits, then I'll do that too. If Gary and Phil Neville don't like it, then they can lump it. I'll refer them back to my point that the club didn't begin in 2014.
There's no point me trying to express an opinion on the influx of new fans and the drastic changes taking place on a seemingly weekly basis. My thoughts on this are more complex than a simple black and white I either like it or would prefer to go back. There's such a thing as pros and cons and grey areas. I also have no need to justify anything to other fans - old or new - or anyone else for that matter. If I had any problem with the club's current situation, then I would simply stop going. I haven't stopped and will continue to support the club whether they are heading for the Conference or plummeting back to the NWC should the Co92 get bored with us, and while I'm going I'll wear a tangerine shirt any time I see fit.

If you or Mr Neville don't like it? I don't give a sh*t. If I can't wear my old Salford shirt to a Salford game then what right do someone have to wear a f**king Man Utd shirt to a Salford game? End of. If wearing an old shirt or singing an old song makes me embarrassing or elitist then then I'm the f**king king of England mate. And that's not going to change any time soon. 😂😂😂 By the way, I'm not against new supporters. I love the fact we now have a bigger following. It's been a dream of mine ever since I started watching Salford to see club grow in stature and become a force that could one day rival our neighbours in Manchester. I've never personally said anything bad about new supporters apart from the fact we now have one or two idiots attached to the team, which is to be expected as we grow in size. But just because we are growing now doesn't mean we have to forget about the clubs history so don't dare have a go at me or any other fan, pre class of 92, because we bothered to give a about the club before we found fame and fortune. Top and bottom of it, we all turn up to support the team and that's all that matters so let's concentrate on that.

Spot on with the above statement vanpercy. We're all here for one reason and that's to support our club!

I don't own a tangerine shirt, but no-one should stop wearing an old shirt regardless of colour. Every club up and down the country has fans who will wear various shirts that they own on frequent occasions.
This doesn't make anyone Elitist, however this is a forum and EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion! :-)

Can I just ask......was Gary Neville genuinely unhappy that people were wearing tangerine shirts or singing old songs, or is it just an assumption?

Can I just ask......was Gary Neville genuinely unhappy that people were wearing tangerine shirts or singing old songs, or is it just an assumption? I was stood at the back of the stand and didn't hear anyone sing this ("We are tangerine"), so not sure how Neville would have (unless he was sat/stood with those singing it of course)... Especially as other people have already commented on the poor atmosphere (which to be honest is more down to the open away end rather than lack of effort from a few I was stood near). Are we sure he just wasn't happy with the performance like the rest of us?

We were stood at the back to the far left of the stand. We did have a decent position in the middle but a group of scallys who I've never seen before decided it was acceptable to stand in front of us, completely obscuring the view. It was only one chant sung once ("we are tangerine" repeated four times).
One of the problems with the atmosphere, aside from the players hardly giving anybody anything to shout about, was that the one's who do cheer and sing were scattered about among the many who don't (and, like you say, it was the uncovered end).

So singing "tangerine Army" was for who's benefit exactly? The team? Management, owners or committee members? I will be really interested to know.
You point out that the atmosphere wasn't great yet you decide to dig out a song last sung 3 years ago.... Who did you expect to join in? Or was it just that you were trying to look smart in front of the "scallys" blocking your view, letting them know you are "die hards" - hence being elitist
And sorry I didn't know I wasn't allowed to have my own view until after certain amount of posts on here I will Refrain in future
As for the Valencia shirts comments - what has that got to do with anything?

I have been through the green and gold with united and it doesn't benefit anyone Who did you expect to join in?
