Sorry to pester you guys with this one, but I cant be arsed to join a Utd or City forum .... funnily enough this post is almost related to the first one I made on here : - )
Watching the news and Match of the Day tonight there was fans at the Manchester derby wearing half red and half blue scarves with United v City on them. What the hell is that all about? Wearing the other teams colours to a game is bad enough, wearing them to a derby match is unbelievable!!!
If anybody turned up at Hibs v Hearts with a half maroon scarf on they would be laughed at or beaten up, probably both. If somebody set up a stall outside of Easter Road, or Tynecastle for that matter, before a derby selling that pish the fans would probably burn it down. Its this sort of nonsense that's tearing the soul out of football, passion and rivalry is what makes the football world go round especially on derby day ..... neither me nor any of my mates would turn up to an Edinburgh derby wearing maroon underpants, never mind a scarf with Hearts colours on, the very idea is unthinkable !!!
I have nothing against English football, I like watching MOTD and Channel 5s Football league show as much as the next guy and when I visit Liverpool where I have relatives I visit Goodison Park if Everton are at home .... don't like Liverpool FC : - ) .... But I have to say from what I saw on the TV tonight it seems like you guys are allowing the corporate world which seems to control the Premier league to turn your game into a plastic, insipid, Hollywood version of the game, full of tourists and fanboys who seem more than happy to piss on the very traditions that give football its heart and soul.
Is it this sort of stuff that's driving real fans away from the likes of Utd and City and into the arms of teams like Salford City, leaving clubs like them to the football tourists from China and EPL fanboys from Ireland and Scotland? You guys are closer to this than I am, just wondering what your thoughts are on it.

After witnessing many Manchester darbies over the years, from the fifties when you could go and stand with your mate who supported the other team then walk home together discussing what you had just watched,to the seventies and eighties where some started to view football differently from what it is just a game.I think the idea of the scarf came from European nights as a momento of the occasion,I think we have had one at one of our games. At the end of the day they would not sell them if people did not bye them.No one wants Salford City to win more than me but at the end of the day,it's still just a game.

I agree with what you are saying 'returntosender' nobody wants to see the type of hatred and stupidity that nearly destroyed the game in the 70 and 80s. But on the other hand nobody wants to see it become a sanitised entertainment where the passion and intense rivalry is removed and people go 'shhhhhhh' when the other team is taking a penalty like in Rugby either.
Its a fine line between making the game safe for families and everybody else to attend and removing the very passions and rivalries that make going to a game the experience it is ..... I can sort of see the European nights thing you mention, as you say a half and half scarf is a nice momento of seeing a club you might only ever see once. But if you start applying the same thing to domestic football its the start of a slippery slope towards making football just another entertainment and ripping away the very thing that makes it great.

Taking the discussion you have started further.Yesterday the Darby went Cities way by all accounts deservedly, after the game a few morons cause trouble in Manchester and people enjoying a night out get caught up in the mayhem. While back at Old Trafford the players are all having a drink together.I know you have the religious aspect in Glasgow and I think to a lesser extent in Edinburgh.I have been to Parkhead Celtic v Hearts. It was an experience to say the least In a bar near the ground before the game it was all rebel songs. But the beer was good.

Half and half scarves are an abomination just as jester hats and face paint are on anyone other than small kids. Adults indulging in the last two activities need to be barred from all football grounds at the very least! As stated the only possible exception or excuse for having a half and half scarf would be as a souvenir of an exceptional game such as the two FA Cup 2nd round ties that we played against Hartlepool United last season. Much to my annoyance I didn't manage to get one at either of the games and have regretted it ever since although I did pick an unofficial one up for our friendly against the Class of '92 prior to the start of season 2014-15. Anyone think a Salford/Darlington half and half scarf would be a good idea for our final match of the season? Obviously Salford would be printed at the top and Darlington immediately below!

i think everyone has got it right with the momento side of it and i bet all of the people wearing them were tourists buying a momento for a game they possibly will never see again

You have to wonder if hibby is trolling just a wee bit though? Trying to get a reaction going? Especially as SCFC had to change from tangerine a few years back? Looks like no one is biting, sorry hibby.
