Firstly let me say that we got exactly what we deserved at Kidderminster today. Absolutely nothing. In what turned out to be one of our most ineffectual performances that I've seen in a long while we simply failed to turn up in every department with their keeper being seriously called into action on probably no more than a couple of occasions all afternoon.
We just couldn't create anything worthwhile up front due to either poor positioning or a poor final ball and our defence was pulled out of position on numerous times by a fast raiding Kidderminster side who fortunately for us were equally woeful in front of goal with their single goal margin victory coming from a very dubious free kick award. A well rehearsed routine settled the game after just nine minutes of play with the resulting shot taking a vital deflection just beyond the reach of a diving Jay Lynch.
When it comes to diving then Kidderminster Harriers - or should I say Stukas - were without doubt the most cynical cheating sides that I have ever seen us play against. On countless occasions their players went down at the slightest of touches and then proceeded to roll around as if taken out by a Japanese sniper. It's something that I have never witnessed at our level of football and I genuinely feel sorry for their supporters if they have to watch those sort of disgraceful tactics week in and week out. Unfortunately our cause was not helped by a weak referee who did nothing to stamp out their blatant gamesmanship and niggling off the ball tactics and was more interested in pushing our players back a foot or two every time we had a throw in and whose day was made complete by his dismissal of captain Simon Grand within a minute of the second half for a challenge from behind.
Whether today's game was a hangover from the disappointment of conceding an injury time equaliser in a physical encounter against Halfax in midweek I really don't know. One thing is certain though. We will have to massively raise our performance levels away at Chorley next Tuesday night if we are to get anything out of that game.
