Anyone not able or wanting to travel to away games and would like their weekly fix of football could go a lot further and fair a lot worse than visiting Prestwich Heys, I went yesterday and saw a good game in awful conditions as the hosts beat Silsden FC 2-0 with a couple of cracking goals from ex Man United Paul Tierney with Michael Itela, ex of ourselves making a late sub appearance. Heys play try to play a decent passing game and for the most part succeed, I'll certainly make the effort to go again as and when the mood and our own games allow.
The atmosphere reminded me of how it was 9 or 10 years ago when I first started going to Moor Lane, crowd around the 60ish mark.
Comparison wise between where we both are, as we have to have a covered stand for 500 by next March to meet league standards, they need to have a 50 seater built and as we are improving our floodlights they have just had theirs installed. They do have a covered area, and boy was it needed yesterday behind the goals that holds a few.
All in all if you do need a game I'd recommend Heys, nice welcome, bar and food, £4 entry.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Prestwich Heys ever since they reached the FA Amateur Cup Quarter Final in season 1969/70 and am delighted to see them back in the North West Counties League after an absence of 30 years! I'm presuming that Michael Itela is out on loan as I'd be somewhat disappointed if he'd been allowed to leave the Ammies permanently.

Watched Heys last season, impressed with their play and big effort to get the ground up to standard.
I'll support them when I can, especially now I know I can see our Mikey in action.

That cup run was when I first watched them as well, I seem to remember a couple of players, one was a centre half called Pete Gilmore and through the mists of time I seem to remember he was an Ian Ure lookalike, (now there's a name from the past), and the other was Tommy Kaye who if memory serves was a portly gent played centre forward who scored quite a few goals for them, happy days.

Unable to get to Bradford yesterday, went to see Michael Itela in action at Prestwich Heys, only to find him sidelined through injury. Like us they've had a decent start to the season, but despite going 1-0 early they got muscled out of it by Alsager, 1-2. They're getting excited about their first ever floodlit home game, week on weds 28th Sep, a Lancashire Challenge Trophy Cup game against - Chorley! Kick off 1945. Might don the red shirt and give them some support. Good pies.
