I guess I'm the first poster on this matter. Lucky me. Today we were expecting to see men against boys, and we got it.
I'm not really that bothered that Salford lost today. If they can't be bothered putting the effort in, why should I care? The Ilkeston youngsters should be proud of themselves for the levels of determination and effort that they put in today. They were fearless at times and it payed off. The better side won.
Over the past month, Salford's form has plunged. However, I think the issue lies beyond just losing a few football matches. I believe that there is something fundamentally amiss within the general atmosphere and culture surrounding the team, starting back at the Stourbridge game. I'm not sure exactly what it is, and it may be more than one factor, but whatever is happening, it needs curtailing right now, or else we will fall outside of the playoff spots. For one thing, the discipline in unacceptable.
I would also add that I think that Stopforth and Hulme were unprofessional to a level that sits uncomfortably with me. What I mean is when they turned up behind the goal in their Salford training suits, swilling beer and heckling the goalkeeper. It's not on for me, that.

Agree with all of the above. The pathetic, embarrassing diving also needs to be stamped out.

Of course being an Ilson fan I am well happy with the result . Our kids were well up for it and played some good stuff but we're hanging on at the end which you expect . But we could have gone 3-1 when we hit the post after a great move. Just seems though you are on your blip for the season. So I think it will be a totally different game next but we will enjoy what ever happens . I do agree with Andrewg that the diving didn't help at times. Glad to have met some if you guys today to have a chat ......

Sad to hear that from our boys drinking etc.... they ahve a life to but not at the games.... what happened to being the face of the club and setting an example. Not good when we're not winning either.

Don't you realise you are not allowed to criticise the team in any way? Christ, all this talk that 'we just lost one game'. No, our form has been off for some time, and it's absolute nonsense to use the excuse that we were up against hungry kids, who were also perhaps fitter than us. Really? Not so long ago, winning our games in hand would have put us top of the league. Now, we're in danger of not reaching the play offs. We had no right to win yesterday. We have no right to beat anyone. But we are playing teams, some of them playing for nothing but pride at this stage of the season, and they are hungrier, and play with more enthusiasm than a team that is apparently fighting for a historical promotion. But of course......I'm not being critical of the team. Heaven forbid.

People are entitled to their opinion fine but I was stood next to Gaz and Jordan and I did not see any inappropriate behaviour in fact they were shouting on the team. I think it is great they stood with the fans

We've had a great season really. Newly promoted and in with a shout of the play offs. I don't think anyone is doubting that?
There's no harm in being critical on the forum. That's what fans do. We talk as though we could do a better job and as though we have all the answers. Any criticism should be seen in that light.
It isn't doom and gloom at all, but part of the fun of football is that we come on here after the game and debate what happened. I think we have a core of great players, but some will go in the Summer. I think we have two up and coming managers, who are taking us in the right direction.
Any criticism of the team, managerial decisions and individual players should be seen in the context of the above.

I think it is great they stood with the fans Really? I was stood very near to them and clearly heard them haranguing the opposition before they moved on to cheering on the team. I'm not against players mixing with fans. It used to always be like that, though it has to be said that the club had tried to nix that recently. I'm also not against them drinking. It's not as if they were playing. But I don't think that they were giving off the right professional image as representatives of the club during a match.

Wasn't any malice in what Gaz was shouting, was just trying to distract the keeper

Well that will be the lads coming nowhere near the fans then during a game. I think we have more pressing issues with the playing squad than them giving the oppo keeper some jib having a pint. Im all up for some constructive critatism thats why football is loved by many but to just say the lads dont care they didnt try this and didnt try that is easy. How would we as fans changed it im as guilty as anyone yesterday to think we were gonna turn up and win "men against boys" after the squad turn over we even sang about it nothing like egg on your face hey Western. We have had a few new faces join the club over past couple of months they need to settle into the lads/clubs ethos on work rate one man one team maybe the need to relax as a squad get the fun back. For those at the game yesterday it was clear at the final whistle the lads care ive never seen this team not come over to the fans at the end at the time i thoughtthat it wasnt great but then put yourself in their shoes frustrated embarrassed naffed off your not gonna want to clap your fans as if the game never happened. But i cant take anything away from ilkestan the fans players all their club proud !!! But going forward starting with Marine Tuesday night ill be singing the lads on as we all will be regardless of opions we all want our team to be successful.

Well that will be the lads coming nowhere near the fans then during a game. I think we have more pressing issues with the playing squad than them giving the oppo keeper some jib having a pint. Obviously I've spoken out of turn here. It appeared to me, at first instance at least, to be unprofessional; however, I don't want to be misinterpreted as saying that players shouldn't mingle with fans or have a drink when not playing (because I haven't said that). Im all up for some constructive critatism thats why football is loved by many but to just say the lads dont care they didnt try this and didnt try that is easy. How would we as fans changed it I'm not sure how this is supposed to read. I think over the last month something has gone awry that is a bit more than a few results of football matches going against the team. I'm not alone in this view. Loads of people have said the same. I think some sort of complacency, or call it what you will, or something like that has been there recently (not all season, quite the contrary, but recently). I'm using my 'voice' as a fan on the forum to say as such. As for the support/singing or what have you, I was there yesterday. I've followed the team through thick and thin for years. I will be critical within certain bounds of reason when I think it is deserved in the exact same way that I will lavish praise upon them when they are playing well (not even necessarily winning). I was also singing loud for all to hear along with many other Salford fans yesterday, and I will continue to do so.im as guilty as anyone yesterday to think we were gonna turn up and win "men against boys" after the squad turn over we even sang about it nothing like egg on your face hey Western. We have had a few new faces join the club over past couple of months they need to settle into the lads/clubs ethos on work rate one man one team maybe the need to relax as a squad get the fun back. Probably true. I would like to see them playing like they are enjoying it again.

I've been speaking purely about the performances on the pitch in recent games. I'm sure deep down most if not all of them care. However, that hasn't been in evidence, in my opinion, in recent games. I'm sure there are lots of other factors that contribute (fatigue, injury, simply a bit of a bad run of form, etc.), but I will credit any Salford team - win, lose, or draw - who give it their all on the pitch. I'll never be more disappointed when I feel that they haven't.But i cant take anything away from ilkestan the fans players all their club proud !!! Good set of supporters and a nice ground to boot. Congratulations to them. Only one team deserved to win and it was Ilkeston. But going forward starting with Marine Tuesday night ill be singing the lads on as we all will be regardless of opions we all want our team to be successful.
