Matt Smith’s 24 goals have got him into the L2 TOTY. In a season of extreme reliance on his goals this is deserved and has had subsequently it could be argued has kept us in the league.
If this is his final games in a Salford shirt I hope he bags a few more.

Really pleased for him. I think it would be nice if those for whom he can never do right were to ''just give him a break!'' for the 'final?' two games.

Really pleased for him. I think it would be nice if those for whom he can never do right were to ''just give him a break!'' for the 'final?' two games. 40 goals in 2.5 seasons isn’t to be scoffed at in the EFL, but I can appreciate the chalk and cheese nature of a use of a Target man and direct football. Smith is an easy agitator of debate because some fans will say ‘goals aside what does he do…’, regulars will point to his defensive headers, but the in between bits in his game make him an easy target for our support - Myself included on occasions. But it’s undeniable opposition fans and managers fear his aerial threat and ultimately goal scoring. I think this season is arguably Smith’s best at Salford, in that no one else is scoring. Secondly the number of injuries and absentees regularly in our team has meant the delivery is very different into the box for Smith to work with. This is a highlight of a dog rough season for this group and we should applauded this especially if this is the end of Smith’s time at the club.

His goal tally has to be regarded in terms of doing it in a pretty poor team. It’s an amazing feat.

Let's face it without his goals this season we'd be absolutely goosed. He does make us a bit one dimensional but he's been a definite asset to us. A model pro and all round good guy too by all accounts

My favorite player. I've never been able to understand the negativity he gets and so readily some fans seem to be open to him leaving. Clubs will be queuing up for him. A true professional who's kept us in this league.
Admittedly I haven't a clue what I'm watching most of the time but he's the first name I look for in the starting 11. If he moves on I'll miss him.

Here's all Matt Smith's goals that he's scored at Salford and it's patently obvious how 99% of them are scored. Not from free kicks or corner kicks but from open play where he can latch onto a decent ball without defenders being given the time to gang up on him. Outside the opposition 18 yard box he is also most effective when flicking on headers but again from open play rather than dead ball or goal kicks. Give defenders time to mark him tight and his effectiveness is nullified. Otherwise, as seen in the majority of goals scored, in one to one aerial battles from well placed crossed balls there's not many better than him.
