Alex Bruce has departed Macclesfield and is poised to be appointed Assistant Manager, Matt Smith’s brother in law.

Club saying he's on the coaching staff and he's KRs recommendation. Not specifically assistant manager but I guess the owners do talk in euphemisms

Few thoughts sprang to mind when I saw this yesterday, in no particular order:
1. This is a ‘Karl Robinson recommendation’ so is this KR building out his staff for next season early.
2. Is this a continuity hire for post KR going into next season, get Bruce in early to get a feel for the club, squad etc to take over as manager at the end of the current campaign.
3. Will Simon Willes and Co make to the end of the season.
4. How often will Steve Bruce be in attendance now.
IMO - if it’s either of the first two, it’s good to see some long term thinking from the club. I think KR is doing really well and the club should be bending over backwards to keep him for next season. Appreciate if the form we are in continues he might get glances from higher up the pyramid but I think he must see the opportunity here with additions in 24/25.
If it is Bruce taking the reins come the end of the season I would hope for him what I hoped for Wood at the start of this season, which is more experience on the bench along side him.

I hope it is the first of your points and not the 2nd. Let's face it giving him the head coach job would be another Neil Wood. Other than a few months at NPL Macclesfield he's never managed anywhere and has basically been a coach for his Dad. It would scream yet another nepotistic ex Utd linked appointment and show the owners have learned nothing.

I know nothing about Alex Bruce and where in practice he would fit in at Salford. What I do know though is that Karl Robinson is doing a bloody good job. Also, I can't help thinking of the proverbs: "If it ain't broke don't fix it." and "Too many cooks spoil the broth." And my instinct is to not want anyone new potentially interfering in the way that Karl Robinson is currently running this team. Can this latest appointment only be for the better or is my uneasiness in anyway justified?
... And, OK I may be missing the point, but cannot KR now be promoted to 'Manager'? Has he not already proven his worthiness?

Given KRs start, I doubt he would be allowed to interfere…and why would he anyway? I don’t know anything about him but I’m hoping he’ll be an asset to the squad. You would think that KR had a say in it too.
