Gary Neville makes his debut appearance tonight on the hugely popular series Dragon's Den on BBC1 at 8:00 pm. I've actually been watching a lot of compilations of the show on You Tube recently and have found them addictive viewing. Whether I'll find the same enjoyment watching our illustrious leader will remain to be seen!

Maybe someone will want to be a Sporting Director?

Thought GN fitted in surprisingly well and added something of a more human touch with his desire to help and nurture applicants without being mercenary about it. As usual the programme provided an overall entertaining watch.

I mean this slightly tongue in cheek but I was wondering if some of those entrepreneurs might regret letting Gary have them on speed dial after hearing about his tendency to be calling our ex managers at all times of the night. In a sense the pitches in front of the Dragons reminded me of those clearly positive interactions full of hope and promise that our recent string of managers must have had at the start of their tenure with our owners. As we've seen things don't always turn out rosy as I'm sure is the case with some of the investments from the show. With not watching much Premier League punditry for a while I'd forgotten how convincing Gary’s opinions are and how plausible they sound. I think the reason why he is seen as such an influential voice in the media is that he really believes what he's saying (at the time he says it) but it doesn't necessarily mean he always really knows what he's talking about. Like you though TD I thought Gary added a different kind of something to the show which made it even more watchable than normal. Casting a new Dragon who is as naturally competitive as Neville was definitely a good move in my book.
