Hi all,
Boro fan here, coming in peace!
Lately I've been looking to start a new Football Manager save. I always like playing teams from lower leagues that have an interesting history or story (Notts County for example). Salford have caught my eye lately, so I thought I would sign up here and chat to some fans about your club. Please forgive my ignorance if I am asking stupid questions!
I didn't even know you guys were partly owned by the class of 92 until I started doing some googling earlier. I was reading quite a bit about FCUM, how they were formed not too long ago due to dissatisfaction with United under their ownership. I'll be honest, when I fuond out you guys were owned by former Utd players I presumed (incorrectly) you guys were the same. I was shocked to see you have a history going back to the 40's, so I thought I would ask fans on the ground what it was like supporting their club.
Do you guys have a preference to either of the 'big' Manchester clubs? Or do you consider yourself Salford fans, and Salford fans only? Apologies if that is an insulting question, I just know people who support teams such as Spennymoor Town up here, but they also follow the Boro.
Apart from FCUM, who do you guys consider to be your biggest rivals?
And do you think you guys will be playing in the Championship any time soon?
Cheers!

Hi
This section doesn’t get viewed much, so you might want to post in the Salford chat area where most of our discussions take place.
I’ve never supported Man U, although where I live is almost all red. I flirted with Leeds in the 70s as a teenager, purely because my mate was mad on them. I started watching Salford 3-4 years before the takeover. Geographically Bolton were my local club, so I had a season ticket for the,. I got disillusioned by the money spent and wasted so decided to watch my local team. I didn’t care what league they were in. I just wanted some local football.
FCUM we’re our rivals only whilst we were in the same league. Whether we compete for fans, I don’t know? Stockport are probably our local rivals now, but I don’t see anyone as a huge local rival. I don’t think we pay much attention to it. We do have Man U and probably Man City fans who come to Salford when 5heir team isn’t playing. In fact one of our group watches Man U. I don’t mind it. If people want to come and support us when there team isn’t playing and they want to support a local team, we should be happy to take their money.
In truth, I still miss the old days. You could watch the game with a pint in your hand and change ends at half time. But with progress comes that professionalism that can’t be avoided.
