First of all we were given the option of either standing (in an uncovered corner) or sitting in what appears to double as a temporary stand with a tarpaulin looking roof over it. Then we were informed that if we hadn't already bought tickets we now only had the option of sitting down and obviously paying the higher rate although very generously those supporters who had already bought standing tickets (like myself) would be allowed in the seated area at no extra cost. Then to add insult to injury our club was informed late afternoon today that Salford fans would not be able to purchase tickets on the afternoon of the game. I believe this decision - in addition to the previous one - was made on the basis that preference has been given to the home support with view to getting as many of them into the ground as possible at the expense of ours. I have heard them say that they have supposedly underestimated the number of our travelling fans which given our normal away support is an interesting statement as I wouldn't have thought that we would have had more than 150 there at the most! To announce that our supporters can't obtain tickets on the day on the eve of the game is quite frankly disgraceful as a number of supporters had already made arrangements to travel with the intention of paying on the day, The whole situation reeks of rank incompetence and shows a complete disregard for our fan base. I suspect that the real reason is due to them selling out their already increased at our expense allocation and they are clearly concerned about home supporters trying to get into our end on the day of the match as a result of which we end up being penalised. Piss up and brewery springs to mind!

I understand that there are ticketless fans who have already travelled. And people have the nerve to call us tin-pot!

I saw that, what a lesson in how not to sell tickets for a game. I suspect they have looked down their noses a bit at us and thought it doesnt matter as we only have a small following. There are a few Bristol supporters on Twitter saying much the same thing which misses the point entirely. Can you imagine the uproar from their supporters if we tried the same stunt on them? Let's hope we respond in the best way possible by taking home the 3 points.

Our ticket office closed at 16:00 and Bristol Rovers inform us at 17:30 that Salford fans cannot pay at the turnstiles. Eh!? So,... can Salford officials not take any of our unsold allocation of tickets down to the Bristol Rovers ground and sell them to genuine ticketless Salford fans outside the 'Away Turnstiles'? Giving our plan maximum publicity on social media, our website, etc, etc - between now and Kick Off - so that those Salford fans who've been unfairly treated by Bristol Rovers will be aware of our club's intentions and can still have the opportunity to get in to see the match.

I don't understand how a game that has been advertised as pay on the gate for a number of weeks is then changed to not pay on the gate less than 24 hours before the event. Not to mention the other shenanigans regarding standing and then no standing and then having to pay seated prices because you didn't buy a standing ticket before they moved the goalposts. I don't know about gas but the whole episode stinks!

Apparently the Bristol Rovers chief exec has replied to fans on Twitter saying Salford were informed of this decision much earlier in the day, and we gave Bristol Rovers the wrong umber of tickets sold.
There has clearly been some “miss communication” here but its wrong for Bristol to not allow pay on the gate less than 24 hours before.
Not everyone can get to the ticket office before close. Just because we have a tiny away following, it doesn't mean we can be treated like crap!
I did reply on twitter to their chief exec who offered me a free pasty because i had to pay the higher price. Nice gesture but just offer us the cheaper standing price in the first place as its not our fault Bristol decided to close the cheaper stand!?

As this appears to be an administrative slip up surely there must be some way around this so that fans don't lose out? Where there's a will there's a way. And it's still over six hours 'til Kick Off!

There was no misunderstanding or administrative slip on our behalf I can assure you as we've been reliably informed that we kept them informed of our ticket sales and they even rang us regularly. They changed the ticket arrangements twice, realised they'd cocked up and then tried to deflect the blame onto our club. Given the way we've been treated i'd be happy never to have to go to their so called 'stadium' again given its resemblance to an Indian reservation with so many tents doubling as stands!

I see that Bristol Rovers are at it again with respect to ticketing allocations for visiting teams with Forest Green Rovers being the latest recipients of their sh*thousery. Good to see that FGR are intending taking the matter further with the EFL. I'd be interested to know if we've taken a similar course of action?

Henry thanks for the update (we have our tickets) but as a principle we need to stop being the nice guys. If necessary we need to report BRFC to EFL and demand sanctions against them. Following this thread it would appear that Salford and probably others had the same negative experience. When BRFC came to the BL we allocated 1200 which is way over the 10% rule. Denying away fans is a deliberate attempt to gain home advantage and must not be condoned in any league.
it may be too late for this weekend (and that raises issues about our own reluctant appetite for conflict) but it certainly needs to be resolved for future seasons … BRFC May well be in EFL1 next season too !!
Trust me, within moments of it being escalated to me, we started a full investigation of the timeline and comms between clubs - and I reached out to BRFC to make it clear that, in our opinion, what they were doing was painfully obvious, premeditated and unacceptable - I also spoke with the EFL and those discussions will continue next week. Ultimately, they will decide whether regulations have been broken. BRFC then drove some tickets up to the ground late yesterday afternoon (which went on sale and sold out today), but still not what the allocation should’ve been.
The remainder of the typical away section went on sale to home fans today, as we’d expected it would.
In general, Clubs work well together - this was a rare occasion to the contrary, at a time so important to our history, which is why our reaction has been so strong.

At the least if we are playing in the same division next season the club should be restricting their away allocation to the absolute minimum required by the EFL. Play them at their own game

Looks like Bristol are pulling the same tricks against FGR. The FGR CEO is not happy:
