I see that James Wilson has joined former Salford players Danny Whitehead and Devante Rodney at Port Vale. There's no question that the guy is a huge talent and is one of a few players who I'd put money on to score from literally anywhere BUT his injury record has been non stop since he joined us and given the huge number of absences he made last season is a contributory factor as to why we missed out on a play off place the way we did. Had he turned out regularly for us I definitely wouldn't have wanted him to leave but he simply became a luxury that we couldn't afford. Some said he didn't look interested or show much emotion but that's his character and I for one wouldn't have minded him showing no joy as long as he was doing the business for us. Will be interesting to see how much game time he gets and how injury free he remains at Port Vale.

I think he would have been fine for us if he wasn't made of balsa wood. He just seems to be extremely injury prone, whether that's genuine or he has a low tolerance level for pain who knows. There's been plenty of examples of talented players over the years who just couldn't string a run of games together. I can see why he was let go as he's a bit of a liability if he spends more time in the stands than on the pitch.

We don’t have room for players like Wilson, who talented though he is, hardly plays. Also, when he did play, he didn’t shine that often. Relied on the odd brilliant goal but didn’t do it often enough.

He did seem to hit a purple patch when scoring in a consecutive number of home games this season but then - and not for the first time - just disappeared off the face of the planet. There was no news about him and I was strongly starting to believe that an alien abduction had befallen him!

If he had been abducted by aliens, they could have brought him back with some extra skills.
