No doubt that the better team won but we certainly didn't disgrace ourselves. Their first goal was a poor one to concede and the penalty we gave away was a needless one but then again how many times did they hit the woodwork as well missing 3 or 4 very decent chances. In the end it came down to a bit damage limitation but I think overall we should be proud of the effort the lads put in and particularly at the start of the second half where we enjoyed a decent spell of possession. It was clear that our left hand side was our Achilles heel which Everton exploited on numerous occasions and which caused us so many problems. My choice for man of the match would be between Brandon Asante who never stopped stopped running, took opponents on and was generally difficult to shake off the ball while Vaclav Hladky made yet another impressive performance between the sticks with that first half diving save nothing short of outstanding. The only source of annoyance for me was that on three occasions we had the opportunity to shoot unobstructed from just inside/outside the 18 yard box and all three efforts flew well over and miles wide of the target. Professional footballers who can't keep the ball down is of my pet hates! That aside it was an enjoyable game to watch with Everton's 10 changes from their Premier League win at Spurs on Sunday showing the gulf between them and our league standing. Onwards and upwards and hopefully tonight's experience will put us in good stead for the trip to Grimsby Town this weekend.

I think you’ve covered all the main talking points. Can’t disagree with any of that.
I’m not going to worry about losing to a second Everton string, many of whom have seen first team action. Neither am I going to take to task any players individually, other than to say that some of our passing was poor, even when not under pressure. You’ve mentioned the poor shooting. But on the plus side, Hladky is going to earn us points this season. I was also impressed with Asante.
It was interesting to watch. The two biggest difference was obviously the skill levels, but it’s clear to see in these games, that they needed less time on the ball. At that level, they seem to think quicker. I’m hoping that the lads got something from it that they can take forward to the weekend. It was good to test ourselves against such quality. I just hope the lads are well rested for the weekend.

I would think that coming off the back of the Everton game - provided that the team can maintain the same mindset - dominance of Grimsby on Saturday will come a little easier than it otherwise would have done. However Everton forced our team to do a huge amount of running around during that match; so, as Chris P. said, one would assume that GA will be demanding little of them between the two matches.
... just demanding of them that they resolutely see off Grimsby on Saturday!
