Have to say that I'm very disappointed and a tad angry that the 'official' fans forum has been shut down without a word of explanation to all the contributors who had made it one of the most frequented and contributed to sites in the Evo-Stik League. As I said on the club's Facebook page I did find the decision somewhat of Stalinist proportions. Alright there has been some fairly harsh criticism of the manager and team performances in recent weeks but surely that's what forums are there for. Whether you agree with all of them or not supporters are entitled to their opinions and throwing brickbats and bouquets is all part of the debating process. So long as comments can be validated with reasonable argument and are not libelous or abusive then surely there should be room for both sides of any debate - no matter how harsh they might appear to be. I welcome the setting up of this 'independent supporters' forum and to many further discussions about my club.

Totally agree. Yes, some of the comments about the current form, including mine, were harsh, but a forum is a debating place. Other forum members could have argued contrary and we could have had a great debate going on. Despite the harsh words, there was no personal abuse aimed at anyone, Just good healthy debate. The idea that you can say what you want on a forum as long as it's complimentary, is ridiculous.
But onwards and upwards. No more shackles, healthy debate and hopefully, some good fun along the way.
Come on Salford!

An official forum was never going to work.... It's a shame that the club feel that they have to close a debating forum on the basis that they might not agree on what someone posts. Apparently there had been some complaints to the club regarding the post on the official forum and the decision was made to close it. If those people who were on the official forum who complained ever come on here, don't bother you are not welcome. If people don't want to come on a fun forum to put the world to rights and talk football then go find a forum about chess or something, (noting against chess, sorry) ;-)
People are entitled to their opinion as much as anyone, doesn't make them wrong, doesn't make them right. If the club thought some people were being nasty on the forum, then they should message those people and explain why their behaviour is inappropriate and warn them. However, I feel that there wasn't any nasty comments being made, merely fans feeling a little aggrieved after watching such a dire match against Harrogate.
Anyhow, onwards and upwards, we have a new forum and a forum that is how FC UNITED fans always say "WE ARE FAN OWNED".

Agree with all previous comments and not to be childish, will the club attempt to gag the FREE PRESS when criticism is published. Unless ther wer personal attacks, find it very selfish, anyways, we move on.

Great to see that a new forum has been started and i can be sure that ninety per cent of the powerless committee new nothing of the closure of the forum. Whoever is responsible for the setting up of the new forum should be warmly applauded. I thank you for restoring the ability to speak freely.

Freedom of speech on here, and that's why the Unofficial forum will work a lot better. Providing no-one specifically is verbally attacked, then all is good. We can single players out though and say they were rubbish. ;-)

Some very disappointing comments on here - "the powerless committee" - is that the chaps who've kept the club running, against all odds, for thirty years in some cases ? The ones who voluntarily handed over control of the club because they knew it was in its best interests?
Also, since when has the club tried to prevent "freedom of speech"? The first forum disappeared for unspecified technical reasons and we decided recently that football club forums are better run entirely independently of the club. I honestly don't remember ever asking whoever has run the forum to remove or edit a posting in all my time involved at Moor Lane.
We are still - on a day-to-day basis - run by volunteers who do their best to act in the club's best interests. The supporters have their own forum - which in my opinion is how it should be anyway - I don't have to worry about reading every post to make sure we're not going to upset the league/another club etc.
As ever, supporters are welcome to voice their opinions without interference from Salford City FC.

Andy, I think some of the fans on here were a little annoyed that the "Official Forum" was closed without any notice, and felt a little bit in the lurch for a place to discuss the team that we are love. In terms of the "powerless committee", I would imagine that this term was used to say that no-one from the committee could ever shut this forum down as it doesn't control it, apart from that we all appreciate what the wonderful volunteers and committee members have done in the past, present and the future.
I can understand that on the last forum, members of the committee/club might of felt annoyed as they put so much hard work in to running Salford City FC, and hence the reason why we all agree that an "Unofficial" forum was the way to go.
Like at all clubs, the fans will go through so many feelings within a season, and unfortunately some fans at the moment feel a little annoyed at the teams performance. This is great for the forum because it cause a debate, something similar to what we're doing right now. Some people will agree, some will disagree, but one thing that didn't happen on the last forum was a single person being singled out and getting abused. We did single out the manager and questioned certain decision, but there was no abuse that followed.
It's just an opinion!
It's happened, and we all need to move on, and hopefully we can work alongside the club and committee members and help push both the club and forum. After all, we all want the same thing, and that's for Salford City FC to continue to be a well run club, be successful, and watch some fantastic football along the way.

Th thing about forums is that in 3-4 games, we might decide the manager is a genius and our players, world beaters. But that's why a forum can never be 'official'. As we've said before, it's a place for debate and to let off steam.....embarrassing if the forum is official. I think there was a lot of unhappiness because it appeared to be instant, with no explanation until after the fact. But it's done and we now have a shiny new forum!
I don't think the fans should be at odds with the committee. We all know they put their time in voluntary and they've helped to keep the club going long before the investment came in. But as above, when things happen, people look to blame someone, The manager, players, owners.....and the committee. But again, it's just letting off some steam. It's soon forgotten and we move on.
I hope this forum is a place where the committee also feel they can post, without hindrance. I hope that it fosters a positive relationship with the club. Just because it's unofficial, doesn't mean we abuse anyone. I prefer accessing match reports from the forum, because I don't enjoy navigating around the official website...I know it's due an overhaul. I'd like to see announcements from the club on here and not have to go looking around for it.
So hopefully, we can chalk this one down to experience and move on. The new forum has had an excellent start, and we can hopefully bring more people in.

Anyone on this forum who doesn't appreciate that the club, has been run by the volunteer committee for years is in the main going to be a "johnny come lately", watching us as a result of the Co92 involvement and the massively raised expectations that the start has given. Those of us who have been here for more than 6 months know the situation and have huge respect for the work the committee have done and continue to do to keep the club on an even keel. The problem with forums is that they breed keyboard warriors and trolls and they're quick to jump on a band wagon posting all sorts. For what its worth I still thnk we can sort things on the pitch and will at a minimum make the play offs which is huge from where we were. Onwards and upwards.

I agree that forums can be known for that, but currently the people who are members on this forum aren't those type of people, and long may it stay that way!! We win tomorrow and we're all back in good spirits!
