It's half-time, it's 1-1 and we're still very much in the game. Apart from their aerial threat I don't think that Hallifax posed us too many problems and I thought overall defensively we were sound throughout the game. A disappointing goal to give away in the first half which probably represented the sum total of their attacking threat in the opening 45 minutes. By contrast we had by far the better of the chances in both halves and finally got our just reward with a late James Poole equaliser. Both sides seemed to cut out the midfield and resort to route one football which I don't think did us any favours and we seemed to be rushing our play to much in the first half with the ball spending too much time in the air. A much improved performance in the second half with the ball thankfully staying more on ground level and we ultimately got our just reward with that late equaliser from substitute James Poole. At half time I'd said we'd finish up level in a similar fashion to the recent Stockport County and Chorley games and that ultimately proved to be the case but it could have been so different if the ball hadn't rebounded of the inside of the upright and had Michael Nottingham found the target with a header that he'd normally expect to put away.
We may not have beaten Halifax in our previous seven attempts but there is a groundswell of opinion that we will finally turn the tables on them on Sunday. There should be a decent turnout on Sunday of Ammie's fans and I'm hoping that my voice has recovered in time to cheer the boys on to the final. Come on Salford!

Proud of all the Salford fans behind the goal who kept singing throughout the whole of the game which is more than can be said for the Halifax contingent who remained strangely muted after our equaliser! I just wish more people around the ground would join in with us on the odd occasion!

That was very strange. We don't get 50,000, so why do people feel the need to 'best the rush'?

It was embarrassing watching our fans leave at 80 mins. It was noticeable vs Darlo aswell. Hopefully the ones that left early last night and missed Poole's goal have learned a lesson that it ain't over till that whistle.

Overall, I thought the draw was about right. We could have won it, but they had their spell of pressure too. Both teams resorting to the hoof didn't always make for pleasing football and we have to learn to stay calm and controlled, and play our best game.....on the ground. I'd have been worried taking a 2 goal deficit to their place, but a draw or a single goal loss, I thought we could recover from.
I thought the Halifax fans were disappointing. For all their complaints about the amount of tickets they got, until they scored, their 600 were quiet.
I'm starting to like the idea that we don't have a lead to defend and we have to go out and win it. It means we have to set up and play as we would any other game. Roll on Sunday!

Speaking with a couple of Halifax fans last night, and was interesting that they thought our support was very disappointing/quiet all night, where as their end was noisy throughout!
I was in the standing area behind the goal for the full match and thought the exact opposite, so wonder if the acoustics are not that great in that stand - which is why when we have the full stand in previous matches the atmosphere has felt flat.
As ChrisP has pointed out, I cannot understand the fans leaving. At a push I can understand it at Old Trafford, Etihad and even at the Wanderers (due to the carparks) but with 2000 at moor lane what rush are they trying to avoid? I left after giving the lads the round of applause they deserved for their efforts (on the night and over the season) and still didnt hit any traffic. Strange really

I thought we were below par last night, lumping the ball about is not the way to go for us as soon as we started playing it on the floor we looked way better. I wasn't too impressed with Halifax, considering our performance I'm not pessimistic about the 2nd leg on Sunday. Against darlo I thought Pheno was brilliant, tonight their number 11 had him in his pocket pretty much all night and JJ did look a little lightweight, otherwise we were ok but just ok, no-one outstanding,
On Sunday I'd like to see Scott Burton back if fit but as the saying goes, "trust in Jonno and Bern" so it's over to them, for what it's worth I believe we can go to the shay and win on Sunday no matter who plays.
Up the Ammies

I didnt think we played paticularly well like as been said to much long ball.It was in the air that long we didn't Need any midfield.I have spoken to a few players in recent weeks from various teams who say the playing surface is not good,so that could explain the need to go long. For me Richie Allen as to start Sunday. As for leaving early, that's what you get when you become a supposedly big team then again they could be on public transport just a thought.

We haven't beaten them in 3 attempts this season but all that goes out the window Sunday.
Judging from last night they don't really have anything we don't bar big Tom Denton up top. If we rise to the occasion Sunday then its ours for the taking.

fair result imo, both teams unlucky not to get a second with hitting the woodwork
not to mention we played most of the game with 10 men. until the first long throw after 20 minutes or so, i had no idea Hine was playing, apart from the throw, he's not bringing anything else to the table
i thought we was in again at the death but richie seemed to trip over the ball when pooley was arriving in the box
sunday is going to be very difficult infront of their bumper crowd, but i fancy us to beat anyone over 90 minutes

Their highest attendance this year is 2925 which I'm shocked about considering the size of The Shay and the history of the club. I'm hoping for at least a turn out of 5000 on Sunday as I think the lads will rise to the occasion.
Spoke to Andy Giblin yesterday who said we are only onto a second coach which surprised me as I hoped we would be taking numbers of up to 500 for this one.

yeah good point, I hope that is the case. If we can take similar numbers to the FC United and Hartlepool games then the atmosphere should be brilliant.
