The only saving grace about the game tonight was the last gasp equaliser from Michael Nottingham which gave us a share of the points which no Salford supporter could have possibly imagined we would have got following that abject performance. Other than that priceless bit of opportunism from 'the sheriff' we were absolutely woeful for the literally the whole game. We struggled to string any number of passes together, lost the ball countless times on the dead ball line, got bullied for most of the game by a strong and physically imposing Chorley side, rarely troubled former keeper Ritchie Brannagan other than a couple of blocked efforts in the 1st half and basically looked like a team of strangers who had never met each other prior to the game. A completely frustrating night and a performance that lacked any purpose or quality that quite frankly made Chorley look like world beaters. In reality they were just a hard working side who competed well but only scored through a comical mix up in our penalty area. There's no question that we really could do with a top quality striker or someone to step up to the table as we clearly seem to be labouring in front of the opposition goal and creating little of real note since the five goal thrashing of AFC Fylde a few weeks ago. The sighting of Diimitar Berbotov at the Stockport County game last Saturday might well be the answer as the next two fixtures - away at Boston United and at home to Altrincham - really do need us to start finding the back of the net again with nothing less than six points being an acceptable return if we are to maintain our play off push!

You are right TD it wasn't very good was it.You would have been hard pressed to get a good team out of the two of them.Still the point could be crucial at the end of the season. Also it was nice to see Richie Branigan again.

I refer fans to Jonno's interview after the game. We were rubbish!
You have hit the nail on the head TD.
We didn't look a though we could score all night and it took mistakes in both defences for the two goals. Notts was lucky not to be penalised for handball by the look of the replay.
When we struggle to break a team down, we revert to lumping the ball in the air and as one of their fans said last night, that played right into their hands because they just mopped those balls up. The least said about our passing, the better.
I'm not going to dwell on the many poor performances last night or name the said players. But Scotty Burton was the only shining light, trying his best to get things going and his usual self in the tackle.
But we played very poor but got something from the game. We move on!

Chorley are in the top 5 for a reason very well organised at the back and very very big high balls like said above were easily mopped up, The pitch looks to be suffering at the minute which doesnt help you see the ball bouncing allover the place same for both teams but our passing is normally our strong point,

agree with pretty much all that's been said so far and very relieved to get what wasn't really deserved, a point, but that could be crucial at the end of the season That said I thought that was probably the worst game of football I've seen in a while both sides lacking quality and we seemed to be completely lacking in ideas and we have to improve massively to maintain our push for the play offs, a couple more performances like that on could scupper our chances. Lots of huffing and puffing and big hoof upfield from us but no finesse. Great support from the Chorley fans though, a credit to their club. The performance of the team was reflected in our fans support, only heard our fans in the Moor Lane seats a couple of times with hardly a peep from the "home" stand unless it was full of Chorley fans? On to Saturday now and hopefully a change in our tactics.

Big congrats to Gareth for the brilliant photos of the goal and celebration, well done. Don't know how you stayed awake, there can't have been much else for you to shoot all night.

I think Broughton has hit the nail firmly on the head. The pitch was an absolute quagmire at full time on Saturday and with little or no respite from the rain the pitch had a heavy roller on it which then only compounded the problem. Chorley and no point tried to play football, they are a very organised and direct side BUT it works for them. I've actually got a different slant on it where I think the lads tried to play football in the first half but realised they were getting nowhere with it and had to try and bypass the midfield as it became a no mans land for football and sheer amount of bodies in that area of the pitch. I think the subs AGAIN changed the game but more prevalently the formation change worked as the width gave us a totally different option! Not much positives in the above posts or Fromm jonnos interview BUT we are 3 unbeaten against teams around us and if somebody would have offered us that after the Tamworth game we'd have snatched there hands off!

Just glad for Jay Lynch as well that we equalised as for me he has been one of if not the best keeper in the league this year.

Agreed mate.. the goal, his handling and the goal kicks going into touch every other time was definitely out of character. However with how good he's been this year I guess an off game was always due. If he kept it up all season then he'd be playing in the football league come September.

Here's my summary:
1st Half - Both teams showed neither wanted to lose the game, no-one wanted to really go for it. We had a couple of chances that were blocked on the 6 yard line. The best chance of the first half fell to Chorley who knocked it sky high from yards out. We were awesome down the right hand side with Notts and Hulme, that's where our chances came from and we should of continued to play like this in the second half.
2nd Half - We never came out of the dressing rooms did we? Passing was none existent, and resorted to the long ball every single opportunity. My only criticism would be the decision to bring Phenix off.... We were lumping it up to the CF all second half, we then bring off a tall striker and put Hine in the middle? Did Hine go there because we were looking to play on the floor, or for Hine to play off the shoulder, NO........ We continued with the same tactic of lumping the ball up, Hine against 2 CB over 6ft, never stood a chance.
As for Jay Lynch, he's won us more points than he's lost, yes he was at fault for the goal, he will know that and will be highly critical of himself, but everyone makes mistakes. If that's Lynch's mistake of the season at least he's got it out of the way.

Performance was awful, highlight for me was the new floodlighting and the 2 great girls before the game. Thought it was a shame of a game but as the away fans told me on the way out, we got a point we didn't deserve. Onwards and upwards. COYA

Agree with everything here, but a big point considering how bad it had been but we need to get a few wins together, 6 teams very tight playing for 4 spots.
Someone sat near me was just slating the team the managers and the tactics from the very first second. It was very negative, slating Notts from the first minute and I had to move when he started saying how the club must be morons to have given the gaffers 2 year contracts because we should have walked the league this season. Two promotions on the bounce and in the playoffs should surely be held a massive achievement.

Surely this applies to every player who has a poor game last night then?!?
