Northwich Victoria took advantage of others having games postponed to take over as leaders of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
The Vics grabbed a 1-0 Flixton win over mid-table Brighouse Town, courtesy of Michael Clarke`s 34th minute effort, to move a point clear at the top.
They were one of only two of the top five to play on Saturday – the other being Droylsden who were surprisingly beaten 5-3 at Stainton Park by lowly Radcliffe Borough.
Elliott Rokka gave Boro a 26th minute lead that Ciaran Kilheeney levelled 12 minutes later, only for Chris Mason to restore the home side`s lead right on half-time. Sam Cook added a third for Boro on 66 minutes and then Rokka scored his second to make it 4-1 with 20 minutes to go.
Kilheeney reduced that by one five minutes later and, despite going down to ten-men, Adam Morning pulled a third back nine minutes from time. But Bevan Burey made it a nap hand to ensure victory for Boro in stoppage time.
Scarborough Athletic are now within two points of the top five after beating Kendal Town 2-1 at Queensgate.
And they had to come back from the shock of being a 8th minute Jordan Connerton goal down, Ryan Blott after 21 minutes and Dean Lisles on 42 pulling Boro around. But the last 25 minutes saw Kendal playing against ten-men when Scarborough`s on-loan keeper Joe Cracknell was dismissed for deliberate handball outside the area.
Padiham remain rooted to the bottom after losing 5-1 at Valerie Park to fellow strugglers Prescot Cables.
Mason Ryan gave the home side an early 5th minute lead that Rob Doran doubled from the spot in the 13th minute. Veteran Brett Ormerod reduced the deficit four minutes after half-time, but goals from Jack Phillips on 75 minutes, a Dean Overson own goal on 85 and Andy Griffiths in injury-time made it a nap hand for Cables.
Burscough moved up to thirteenth in the table after winning 3-1 at Ossett Albion.
Liam Caddick gave the Linnets a great start with a goal inside the opening minute. Adam Muller levelled in the 16th minute before Jordan Williams on 56 minutes and Will Jones two minutes later won it for the visitors.
Harrogate Railway are now eighth after winning 1-0 at the Giant Axe against inconsistent Lancaster City, courtesy of a 14th minute Adam Baker effort.
