Last night was by far and away our best performance since Wrexham in my opinion. Credit to KR and his team for not only matching up man for man against the favourites for the division in terms of the shape but also in trusting the likes of Edwards, Austerfield, Fornah, Francis Okoronkwo to play in different roles than they maybe accustomed to. Must admit when they had all ten outfield players well in our half after the first goal I thought we would fold but credit to the team for sticking at it.
Agree with a number of points made post match on here and by the manager, but key takeaways for me where how dominant the subs made us is the final phase of the game. I have never known a Salford side look so much more able to defend a 1-nil as we were last night. Fornah, Adelakun and Kouassi are unbelievable ball carriers who acted like a release valve in our defensive third which makes the transitions really aggressive and gutsy. Add in Mnoga, Berkoe - chasing games if needed will be interesting on the counter and will allow us to maximise the 100 or so minutes of game. The deadline day recruits have made the squad feel massive - but the big thing for me is the technical capability of the group feels higher than last season by a long way. Watt was phenomenal for us and was above the next level of Watson, Garbutt, McAleny and arguably Mallan. Now with Negru, Austerfield, Edwards(maybe- TBC), Fornah, Woodburn, Watson, Connor Mac, Garbutt having dynamic targets who can run hard and actively look to attack the box we can make more of that quality on the ball.
Plenty of games to get ourselves up the league, I actually don’t think that set up is our most effective - still think we would be better served with a back four. Plenty to come from this group and the manager I feel but just hope it translates into performances and wins. UTA.

Mnoga was immense when he came on. He managed to hold the ball in the corner for about 5 minutes late on.

Mnoga was immense when he came on. He managed to hold the ball in the corner for about 5 minutes late on. A friend of mine saw him a few times for Aldershot and said he was ready for the step up. He was in front of me for the Haaland-esq shithousery in the corner at the end and you could tell he is a strong lad. Looks ideal for the Wisdom role in a back four from preseason and appeared to have some speed in getting back. National League is easy to money ball when you think of the likes of Conn-Clarke or Langstaff who have shot up the leagues recently.

Jamie Jones and Negru made L2 TOTW but also and significantly more surprising… Laurence Maguire. Austerfield, Edwards and both Fornah and Ashley did more defensively on the night than Harry’s younger brother. Sympathy for all the food in Greek prisons comments on the night clearly.
