Like alanb (but for entirely different reasons) tonight's home game against MK Dons marks my first viewing of any Salford City fixture (be that friendlies, league fixtures or otherwise) of the current season. I have absolutely no idea at all as to how the match will pan out but what I do hope to see, both tonight and in the coming months, is a significant improvement in our home form. It's interesting (or should that be frustrating and off putting) that in our five seasons of EFL2 membership, together with the opening home league fixture of this season against Port Vale, we've played a total of 122 league games at Moor Lane and have won just a paltry 41 of them. That works out at an average of 8 home wins a season which is clearly unacceptable both in terms of being able to mount and sustain a serious promotion challenge as well as impacting on both regular and casual supporters who think twice about coming back to home games in a hurry as well as renewing season tickets. I do know of a number of people who haven't renewed this season due to the fare on offer. This situation has to change if the club is to progress both on and off the field of play.

Yep, sadly, I'm sure you're right, TD. We need serious collective pulling up of socks at Salford FC. A win tonight could certainly be the start of something. MK Dons manager, Mike Williamson, has warned his MK Dons players that they must be "dogs of war" to get a result at Salford City tonight.

I've long given up expecting a win at Moor Lane. I go more in hope but more often than not it's the usual disappointment. The annoying thing with us that we can seemingly turn it on against the decent teams but not lower placed clubs. For example last season 3 of our 5 home wins were against Wrexham, Crewe and Barrow scoring 12 goals. We lost to the likes of Sutton, Grimsby and Tranmere. Is there a motivation issue I wonder? Knowing us we'll probably get a decent result tonight then lose to Cheltenham in a fortnight. I expect a more meagre crowd than usual as it's a night game on TV which won't do much for the atmosphere either.

I always want to think we can win any game, but it’s hard to see past our start this season. The one goal we scored was a solo, if brilliant effort from Kelly. We never look like scoring as a team. I saw a lot of aimless hoofing and general ‘cant-give-a-tossery’, particularly up front and midfield.
No matter the result tonight, we still have players to bed-in so the result may not be fully indicative of where we really are. That might not be reflected in my post-match comments if we lose. 😁
But as I’ve said in previous seasons, we need to be showing improvement even if we’re not quite there. I’ve not seen that in the games we’ve played. We have a fantastic manager who WILL succeed given the chance. I just want things to start turning around….more for him than me really. I don’t want the malaise to set in before we even get going.
In an ironic twist of fate, I won’t be at the game tonight. I’m heading south for a few days for work. Where am I going? Milton Keynes….so I’ll be sure to give their team bus the finger as I pass them. I’m sure that will put them in a bad mood and make sure they lose the game. 😂😂😂

I've missed these match threads from TD, I thought they'd well and truly 'done you in' from last seasons dross!
Added motivation for the players being on Sky? We've finally managed 1 SINGLE goal and I still cling to a relatively half decent performance away at Bradford as indicators that tonight will be a win (providing a new striker 1. Plays and 2. Knows where the actual goal is).
Also can't make the game as also in MK with work. Might turn out we work for the same company Chris B in which case my usually dross head office visits may be a little more tolerable. Enjoy the game 🙌

I've missed these match threads from TD, I thought they'd well and truly 'done you in' from last seasons dross. Thank you for those kind words jayb99. To be honest ever since I wasn't able to attend away games and then eventually home games due to my late mothers illness I was sort of forced to take stock and re-evaluate my whole relationship and commitment to the club. Couple this with my subsequent enforced (but nevertheless highly enjoyable) alternative of watching non-league football saw me increasingly involved with Whalley Range AFC in the Cheshire Football League to the extent that I now prefer to watch them home and away in addition to have become a sponsor of the club. I guess that at heart I'm really a non-league nut who enjoys all the benefits of watching football at that level. Added to that there is also the presence of a number of pre Class Of 92 former Salford City players involved at Whalley which makes it an even more pleasurable experience. I will continue to watch the Ammies when the occasion permits, such as tonight against MK Dons, but if I'm totally honest I feel much more at home on the Range! And it's absolutely nothing to do with the fact that we haven't had a promotion in five seasons as is very evident by my past record of having watched Salford for many years prior to the takeover when successes were very few and far between!

Well......I can't say I saw that coming, but what a turnaround. I saw a comment from a Carlisle fan on twitter saying 'two very poor sides'. This from a guy whose team have conceded 9 goals already. But was he right? I don't think so. Nemane and the lemonade guy caused us many problems and they looked pretty decent at times. But how did our new signings play as though they'd been in this team for months? I could go through most of the team, but Francis for the goal....Jones, Stockton who looked very good last night and just needs a goal.....but Fornah for me was the stand-out. His pace never dropped for 90 minutes and that lad has pace. The other new guys that came on looked decent also. We've had too many false dawns at Salford to get overexcited just yet, but if this is a glimpse of what's to come, then...wow!!

That was the most enjoyable game in months, we played some really good stuff. I thought for a non centre back Austerfield was really good and Stockton had by far his best game for us. Jones was excellent too. MK are a good team, you could see that but as ever can we play like that against the poorer teams? Consistency is key now. It's telling that many of the "old guard" such as Lund and McAleny were sat in the stands and KR preferred younger, more dynamic players. Only Garbutt, Ashley and Chesters from last season's squad started with just Watson and Nmai on the bench so this is definitely his team now. We've all been crying out for athleticism, now we've got it so let's see how we go.
We could have had more goals with a bit more composure in the final 3rd (Stockton and Adelakun I'm looking at you) but MK could too with better finishing. That's been the story of their season looking at the stats, lots of shots but not many goals. Finally, the goal was superb. He'd been a bit erratic up till that point but seemed to settle after that. Pity we've no game at weekend to harness the momentum but on the plus side we've 10 days to integrate the new lads. Fingers crossed, better times ahead

Plenty of energy and commitment last night and encouragingly more shots on target than in the previous five games! There's still a certain rawness about the look of the side which when they hopefully really start to gel will convert itself into more goals and ultimately more wins. As stated above we really should and could have had more goals to have made the game completely safe but the clean sheet was reassuring even if MK Dons tried at times to walk the ball into our net. Encouraging signs then!

Tyrese Fornah!!! Very talented. It was mesmerising watching him outplay all those who tried to get the ball off of him.
Just get him scoring goals as well, and the sky's the limit for him/us.

Finally, a squad that look like they can do something! Best game Stocktons had in a salford shirt, having extra support alongside seemed to massively benefit him.
Fornah is class, I thought he was top draw on his debut at Bradford and has played full 90 in all games now if I'm not mistaken, lads a machine proper engine and a very silky touch. I also think he frees up loads of space and time for Woodburn who at times last night had bags of space.
Okoronkwo once he settled looked dangerous but took him a bit to adjust to the early physicality..
Not sure where this leaves Luamba now and Matty Young as Jones was captain for a 2nd time and also excellent. I can see Sunderland not being satisfied with him warming a bench.
Great result which gives us something to look forward to going ML for now!
