It’s been nailed on for a few weeks now Appleton taking over. After yesterday it would need Sean Dyche coming in on a 5yr deal to convince me the Owners know what they are doing in terms of building a competitive charge up to L1…. And Beyond.

Appleton has a 30% win rate this last season with Lincoln. But of course, he's been in League 1, so he knows all about it and stepping down into League 2 will therefore be a breeze. It's an in-built, but incorrect theory with our owners that if you take players (and managers) from a higher league, they will absolutely p*ss the league below. I think Salford have well and truly debunked this theory!
Let's assume he does come to Salford. He left Lincoln by choice on 30th April. The fact that he quit Lincoln with apparently no job to go to will say a lot about how our owners work and go about their business. We are told GBs fate was decided at a meeting yesterday, but let's remember that one of our members on here said it was all decided much earlier. I don't believe Appleton just quit with nothing else in the pipeline. If he comes to Salford, I'll be convinced that he was always coming here and therefore, GB was always going to be sacked. We had two games in May (and we could have still made the playoffs) and Appleton quit in April.
I'm still angry.....still unsure about renewing my season ticket. I've heard a few more recent fans saying they aren't renewing. Only my longevity supporting the club makes me pause, but I like the idea of going back to watching a local non-league club. But if I do stay, I won't forgive our owners.
I don’t know if it was a typo, but someone on Twitter referred to them as the ‘Crass of 92’. Seems apt.

United’s under 23’s manager Neil Wood could beat Appleton to the managers job according to Alan Nixon.
With United set to release the likes of Levitt, Reece Devine, Mastry, Connor Stanley, Charlie Wellens it would be great to get 1 or 2 in with him if possible. Levitt is a long shot as Dundee’s fans player of the year but, if the owners want to talk the talk then they need to put their hands in their pockets and get players of that level. The club needs to move quick, see Bradford have taken the lad Jake Young from FGR, Bradford like many others will be in the same market as Salford for the better players in and around L2.
I personally would rather see the owners give a young coach with zero baggage a go over Appleton. It looks like a emphasis will be put on the development squad from last year to provide 3/4 players into the first team for next season so someone accustomed to working with a younger group maybe a good shout.

I'll defer to Will who referred to Nixon as being a throw it at the wall and see what sticks sort. I'm convinced Appleton was lined up weeks ago once the play offs went.
Young players would be great but we know it'll be a load more 30+ has beens from L1 and 2 on frees in about 6 weeks when everyone else has had first pick. Sorry for the cynicism but I'm still fuming from yesterday's announcement.

Why was Dyche watching the L2 playoff at Northampton? Interesting?

Andy Mitten has done a piece on the athletic on Neil Wood also. A friend of mine told me last night that it was doing the rounds with a few journos before the FAYC final that some of the 18s staff might move up if Wood goes. Personally I am more comfortable with this than Appleton, but they have to back him on the recruitment side big if this going to work.

They haven’t done for any other manager yet. They think they have, but if they’re players the manager doesn’t want….that’s not backing the manager. This could have some legs, because I think he’ll be so happy to get the job, he’ll buy-in to the Sporting Director stuff and we’ll go again next season following the same path as previous seasons. Our experienced players will be left behind for pace……well those who aren’t left behind for injury. I genuinely believe that the owners daily decision making for this club relies heavily on how he feels when he wakes up that morning. What do they say? The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Been a season ticket holder / visiting this forum over the last few seasons and really disappointed with this news.
Thought Bowyer would start next season in charge and with a couple of decent signings to build on what we'd managed since January, was hoping we'd be in for a good run at the playoff places. Maybe even starting a season with a settled team / squad for once, rather than wasting the first 3-4 weeks working out the first XI....
Will understand a little if it's a big appointment, but can't say Appleton or some Utd youth coach strike me as an improvement and we're back to square one. Again.

Will understand a little if it's a big appointment, but can't say Appleton or some Utd youth coach strike me as an improvement and we're back to square one. Again. The squad needs 3 or 4 tweaks. The players and manager know each other. They all know the club. We could go on all day about it and it still won’t make sense. Our owners more than anyone that sticking with your manager through some bad times can reap dividends later. Ferguson is the embodiment of that. That’s without getting started on his pontificating towards every other club that does what he did this week. He’s a clown…will always be a clown and I don’t care if they stay or go. The kudos of getting us into the Championship has become far more important than looking after people and treating them with respect. 1. Effectively mocking B&J in the documentary saying, “we let them sign their own player once and look what happened.” You signed the other 10 Gary! 2. Engineering B&J out of the club and then calling it ‘mutual consent.’ 3. Forcing players onto experienced managers….although Wellens pushed back on that. 4. Whatever the recruitment policy is, clearly allowing the cameras to film the process of GN and Casper debating players without the manager. 5. Gave Jordan Hulme a professional contract…even filmed it for the documentary and then cancelled it before the ink was dry. 6. Declaring (for the documentary again) that the club had given the manager all he needs to get promotion, and in such a way as to suggest it’s very easy now for him to get that over the line. Our controlling owner wants to be the manager without the title or responsibility. He still pushes on with a flawed recruitment policy and and even more flawed sporting director. I don’t know about picking players, he couldn’t pick his nose. The dream is long gone for me. It just isn’t that good anymore. I rarely enjoy myself at a game and you have to ask yourself why you keep doing it.

Perhaps this all goes to proving that English Football is not all it’s made out to be. The days of local players playing for their local team and manager are very long gone. It’s just about money, standing the losses (for the owners), and TV rights (at the top level).
The NLN and NLS are the last tier that has any integrity whatsoever, as those clubs are mostly local passionate people playing for the love of football and just making ends meet. The higher you go from there up, the worse it gets.
Take Liverpool as a random example… Not many Scousers in the team these days? Try watching them for less than £100 a game, all in? Scouse owners? Scouse manager? Local kit maker? Local food suppliers? Local anything? Nope. It’s just a business,
And so now is Salford City.
