One of the things I have realised is high player turnover and shorter contracts are the norm at this level, especially post covid. There is a number of factors for this but getting out the league ASAP is one of if not the biggest one. I was listening to a podcast with the Plymouth Chairman who was talking about squad composition and how that shapes recruitment. Essentially they know who they will promote from the dev and youth squads, who will effectively age out for the style of play, player sales, manager specific requirements and purchases at all times - they literally have an NFL style draft board in the analysts office. The aim is to have a rounded squad to get them out of the league but they can move the dial accordingly because they have a plan and a structure for whatever they need. I know this sounds a bit Football Manager 2018 but I don’t see it happening at Salford and ironically it would be the more economically mindful way to do things. Only thing I can think they are waiting for on recruitment is the north west Prem clubs released lists as to why they haven’t moved yet. But again it all comes back to recruitment and not the Manager. Our owner believes in the Sporting Director approach and has advocated that for Man U also. He said they MUST employ a Sporting Director. But.....and this is a genuine question....what does a Sporting Director do? We have the manager who knows what he wants. Scouts to find the players he wants and a chairman and secretary to sort the contract. So is the SD role in place of all those? Secondly, what are the qualifications for an SD? A sporting director should be the conduit between the sporting operation and the board. They are a head of day to day sporting operations, essentially on the Mens and Woman’s side, their reports would be First Team Manager, Chief Scout, Under 21 and 18s manager, loan manager (if applicable), youth development, junior scouts, analytical dept heads, sports science/medical heads. They should mould the vision for the club upto the first team and support the first team coach in recruiting the players to achieve the clubs agreed objectives. Qualifications wise not sure - Bayern Munich for example regularly have ex players in that role but they are supported by experts in each area. Either way I don’t think Casper is delivering in any of the above areas.

Confirmed by the club, what a shambles our ownership is Club statement says the meeting took place today but hopefully GB will get to release a statement through the LMA soon. It’s a stinking decision and won’t go down well, I think the ownership, chairwomen, sporting director will have zero accountability for the season evidently. GN will at least get some stick online and off Carra for the next few weeks

GN will at least get some stick online and off Carra for the next few weeks I seriously think I might have had enough now. The below pretty much sums up my feelings. I’ve said this to him on Twitter… ”Can I just say this as a Salford season ticket holder. You are a joke. Your Sporting Director consistently signs duds with no comeback. I don’t want to come back next season. The only thing is, I was here before you! If you ever feel you’ve had enough, go with my blessing!l I then said this on Facebook in answer to the official club post… ”We are a tin-pot shambles of a club that deserves everything aimed at us. Our owner, and I mean owner singular, has spent the last few years playing a Football Manager game, but with real people. We have the owner playing far too big a part in the daily running of the club. We have a Sporting Director that seems to answer to nobody and keeps his job no matter how many failed signings he makes. We have dwindling attendances and our owners think buying success will bring them back. Once again, we’ll have our owners making bold statements about promotion being a must, piling the pressure on the players from day one. Finally, it looks like we’ll end up with another ‘jobs for-the-boys’ manager. He may well succeed at the first attempt and will be seen as a big success. But will he succeed he season after and what happens then. Our comedy owners have spent the last few years talking up the family club aspect. One owner in particular has done nothing but slam clubs who sack their managers quickly and then completely ignores it at their own club. I really don’t want to go back, but I was here before our owners and part of me wonders why they should turn me away from my club.”

Not entirely unexpected.
It is quite possible GB was happy to be sacked and go back to working for/with Wayne at Derby. We’ll see what he says and does.
So, what now? Back to watching Alty now full-time under new owners? Start watching Stockport, now promoted? Go see what happens to Oldham in the NL? Go on a new journey with Bury? Renew my season ticket?
Not sure what to do. I just feel bad for what’s left of the tangerine army… Babs burgers and kids playing football behind the goal, seems along time ago now.
Integrity? Industry? Don’t think so.

I'm that angry that I really can't bring myself to say anything about today's announcement. Genuinely saddened for GB although with a year still left on his contract I should imagine he will be compensated accordingly. The manager is dead. Long live the new manager. Let the farce continue!

Yes that work ethic slogan seems hollow to me now. Integrity? Sacking a man you signed for 2 years when you know he’s had to use the players you gave him? Industry? Not wanting to work towards the next league up….just wanting to buy it. I’ve thought some more about this tonight. I feel the ‘project’ the owners came in to do was missold to me. I saw a squad being built around a few key players. A young squad who would be with us through a promotion or two. Players who we might actually sell on one day for a healthy profit of they were good enough. Players who wanted to be at the club. Now….I think all that matters is getting in the next league. Doesn’t matter who gets trampled as long as the goal is reached. Many fans said a couple of seasons ago that we’d be happy just to be in League 2 and to work our way up. But that’s not good for our owners. If they’d have gone about this the right way, we may have been promoted already. But they have made poor player choices and been too quick to release managers.

I found a way to release my anger. Try it. It’s cathartic. What you need to do is to find a target to direct your anger at. Not sure who that could be, but I’m sure you can do it if you pit your mind to it. I’m that angry, I almost don’t care how good the new manager will be. One of them will get lucky and get first time promotion at some point, but does that make what’s going on right?
