Obviously we have nothing to play for other than pride but a win could see us finish in 8th place at best but no worse than 10th depending on other results. Also, we have beaten Stevenage in all 5 of our previous league meetings over three seasons (2-0, 1-0, 2-1, 1-0 and 1-0) so it'd be good to carry on that sequence of results. As suggested elsewhere it may be GB's last ever game in charge (I hope not) but there'll certainly be a number of players who we'll be seeing for the last time in a Salford shirt. Either way those travelling will be looking to have a good day out with fancy dress the order of the day. Let's go out in style and give the boss and every player our full backing this weekend. COYA!

A win for Salford and an early start to our recruitment drive straight after, from the owners AND Gary Bowyer.

After not being able to log into ProBoards since my return from Stevenage on Saturday night I'm glad to say that I'm now able to do so again. Result aside it was a hugely enjoyable day with a large percentage of the 174 Salford supporters in attendance getting into the spirit of the day and dressing up in fancy dress costumes which has been favourably commented on various social media sites. Everyone who made the effort should be congratulated and for those who didn't - a big raspberry! I particularly liked the Mexican 'contingent' and despite the overall friendliness of the Stevenage stewards I did find the confiscation of their maracas prior to entry into the ground as absolutely ridiculous and quite frankly totally unnecessary.
Yes, I would have liked us to have won, achieved our best ever EFL points total, achieved 8th instead of 10th place and not to have conceded 4 goals against a side who narrowly escaped relegation but the fact that we were 'only' playing for pride and that I'd had plenty to drink before the game effectively numbed me to the disappointing outcome. On another day we could easily have scored six goals or more with Matt Smith particularly unfortunate not to get onto the scoresheet and as for that miss by BTA! Just don't get me started. Three of their goals were down to poor defending and none more so than their first which saw Theo Vassell criminally turn away from a tame shot. People who know me are more than aware of my absolute disgust at players who turn away from more often than not from soft shots or attempted crosses. It is probably one of the things - together with defenders trying to do their jobs with their arms seemingly glued to their backs - that really winds me up and is completely unforgivable.
Not going to say anymore about the game as it is what it is but it was very heartening to see Gary Bowyer engaging with the fans both before and after the game. As I've said before I really do hope that he is here next season. We've only just missed out on a play off place for the last two seasons and while he will undoubtedly be first in the firing line we really can't dismiss any number of player performances that either haven't been good enough or which have cost us points. It has to be a collective responsibility.
On a lighter note I did find it highly amusing when on the way back from Stevenage when we stopped at a motorway services. Being dressed as a monk/friar for the day I was asked by a middle aged Irish lady if I was a holy monk and if I could offer up a prayer for her. I really wish I could have done so but had to admit to her that unfortunately I wasn't the real deal!

Maracas confiscated?! Phooey. That is poor. I got into the ground with both a cutless and a dagger! However, it did take an argument (diplomatically-conducted, of course) with the stewards at the turnstiles; and for BTA's dad to vouch for me. ("Alan's not a real pirate - and his weapons are are only made of plastic."! ) PS: I didn't join in with the conga - good as it looked... not because I'm a miserable old git, but simply because I didn't want to miss out on anything that was happening (may have happened) on the pitch during the last few minutes... ... sadly nothing did.
