Did much happen today?

Obviously happy with our win (eventually) but football took a back seat today for me given the pitch invasion and the unpleasant scenes immediately after outside the ground. Have to say the pitch invasion was entirely predictable but the timing of it seemed strange given that Oldham had given a decent account of themselves and might well have taken something from the remaining 11 minutes. Thought the overall stewarding and policing, given the potential for disruption during and trouble after the game, appeared to be sadly lacking in terms of anticipation and preparation given the highly charged atmosphere, and I just hope that innocent supporters weren't caught up in the after match trouble. I will say though that I felt embarrassed at times to be a Salford City fan today given the way some of our support goaded the home fans with a series of 'chant's and 'songs' that showed little sympathy for their plight both on and off the pitch. I just wished they shown as much energy supporting our own team instead of 'hating' the opposition. I'm all for some good old fashioned banter with opposing fans but today was just cringeworthy and showed a complete lack of 'class'. I know there's no love between us and Oldham but we're all part of the footballing fraternity and to celebrate the demise of another team (irrespective of who we were playing today) due to rank bad ownership coupled with relegation just doesn't sit comfortably with me. It seemed to me that many individuals (who I've never seen before at away games) were not there to support us but to wind the opposition up which I believe had a contributory factor to what happened after the game. Perhaps I'm just old fashioned?

Just seen the highlights and their penalty award close up. Very harsh that as the ball was blasted at Jordan Turnbull and there was no attempt to stop a goal bound shot, Huge save as well by Tom King, whose had his fair share of critics, from Oldham scorer Kiellor-Dunn when he was clean through which if converted my well have had a big influence on the result.

Not sure, it all became surreal. It'll take a day or two for it to be totally clear just exactly what did happen - both during and after the match. There was a great headed-goal from Brandon, and a terrific one-on-one save by Tom King. But I don't think that the line of guys across our goalmouth, dressed in fluorescent yellow jackets and brandishing batons, were our regular back four.

However, to be serious for a minute; I'm in total agreement with what TD is saying about some of our 'new Salford fans.' Some right morons turned up today. I do hope that they don't honour us with their company at any further games - particularly not the fools who thought it clever to break up Oldham seats and then bring large lumps of the blue seats onto our coach (having previously taunted Oldham fans by waving the vandalised-seats at them). I trust that these cretins will be banned from future matches.

I take back my backtrack in my recent post.
Good riddance to bad rubbish!

Bizarre away day. Oldham idiots if u ask me. That bald guy starting on Brandon escalated it all the idiot Brandon scored the goal that put them behind. Then Barrow scored and their fate was 12 minutes from being sealed..... Brandon turned one of their players, and he feigned a serious foul. By that time the Oldham players were getting desperate. The Salford fans were doing the conga winding up the Oldham fans. Let's all do the conga, na na na na ....Brandon was shown a yellow card and that Oldham fan started to go mental after Brandon. That wound the others up and before you could say 'welcome to the national league" a pitch invasion had started on the stand near to us. The opposite stand then steamed onto the pitch. A line of police officers appeared and gave us the best defensive line up we have had all season. It was pure box office. Ps top goal, nice Ibou Touray cross, and Brandon did very well to ensure he positioned himself correct and headed it correctly. Our two longest serving players (5 seasons and 3 seasons respectively) came together. Oldham go down and Stockport will probbaly go up. Well probbaly stay where we are and so let's all go f**n mental at the Stockport games next season, as our new local derby, just like the non league days of yesteryear.

I heard jim whites piece on talk sport the other day all over Oldham how they were âprotestingâ etc. They didnât see the half of it. Some bald pissed up nob head started the lot. No sympathy for them after seeing that on Saturday. Ppl have said our fans werenât helping doing the conga. I disagree. The young ones were having a laugh ffs itâs football. And chants are chants. Itâs football. How our own fans can blame that on our own I donât know regardless of how long they supported Salford.good riddance to Oldham I say.

A 'protest' (at whatever stage of the game) was always likely but as it's the home club who have to pay for a police presence INSIDE the ground it's hardly surprising that there were next to none present at the time of the pitch invasion as well as a lack of ordinary club stewarding. Don't get me wrong, I have no more sympathy for Oldham then I do for Scun*thorpe being relegated, and while I don't blame our fans, the constant barrage of antagonistic chanting and gesturing was always going to inflame matters. I'm pretty certain that there would still have been some 'trouble' after the game but not on the scale that we witnessed. Unfortunately these days people seem to regard it as their right that they can do whatever, whenever they want irrespective of whether it's breaking the law or not and most of these so called 'protesters' were little more than individuals following the rest and sticking two fingers up at authority.

Sad thing is itâs a football problem, the âprotestâ amazingly seems less organised now than ever and the supporters ironically are closer to have a stake in Oldham than ever before. Bonkers. I do have an issue with the ivory tower Jim White and Simon Jordan talk from about non-league, L1 and L2. Itâs just smash-mouth click baiting and leaves them u-turning more than the current PM.

But surely that does not mean that 'anything goes.' Some Salford 'fans' who turn up (not necessarily intending to watch and enjoy the game) at Salford matches are not "our own."

It doesn't mean anything goes. It means have a laugh and watch the game and have a bit of banter.
