With the season now finished for us I'll be getting my football fix with Whalley Range AFC in the Cheshire League Division Two who will be playing out their league campaign until the end of the month. Why Whalley Range you ask? Apart from being very close to where my mother lives they have a superb facility as well as a strong pre Class Of 92 Salford City playing connection. Managed by Rob Kinsella - who turns out occasionally - and assisted by Jimmy Holden current players include Danny Heffernan, Rees Welsh and Shelton Payne. Josh Bardsley turned out for them at the beginning of the season and Adey Bellamy has recently signed on but hasn't made his debut yet. Whalley are presently battling it out for the league title with Blacon Youth with both sides favourites for promotion to the second tier. Admission is free, food and drink is available, it's a surprisingly decent standard of football and there's a good buzz about the place. The next home game is against Sandbach United Reserves on Saturday 22nd May with a 2:00 pm kick off. I've been down there this season with alanb, bester and salfordslim and they'll all vouch that it's been an enjoyable experience. See you there! Enclosed is the winning goal in the recent 3-2 home win against Holmes Chapel and the opening goal in the following 2-3 home defeat against Blacon Youth - Whalley's first loss of the season.

Yep, in line with what TD says above; I can certainly confirm that an afternoon watching Whalley Range AFC - and availing oneself of all the good food, drink, and convivial company on offer at the ground - is time well-spent. And - as TD also says - it's great value for money! I'll certainly be going along this coming Saturday, May 22nd. And it'd be especially nice if a good few of us who regularly post on here were to come on down for an hour or two (or even more if you're enjoying yourself!); and we can all pontificate (in the nicest-possible sense of the word, of course ) on how well we think Salford City FC is doing at present... and on exactly what we (in our humble opinions) think it should be doing! . Hope to see you there, guys.
PS: If you come by car they've only got a small car park, but you can easily park on the long residential road (Kings Road) just outside the ground, or thereabouts. And, if like me, you'll be having a drink, there's St Werburghs' metrolink station ten minutes' walk away; and buses up and down Wilbraham Road.

I would have come along but my daughter is coming to visit for the weekend from..... Chorlton😊. I've got an afternoon in the pub booked in with her and I'd be lynched by both her and my wife if I reneged. I'm up for it maybe next season tho.

But not to worry ... tell us what pub you'll be in and we'll all bomb 'round to join you right after the match. I'm sure your wife'd appreciate the additional company of a few merry Salford City football fans.
Seriously ... have a great family get-together over the weekend, and we look forward to maybe seeing your good self at another game in the not-too-distant future. Cheers, Chip. All the best.

An excellent afternoon's entertainment saw Whalley Range over run Sandbach United Reserves by 7-2 after the visitors had fought back from being two goals down. Was great to see former Salford striker Danny Heffernan restored to forward duties after previously having played a number of games as a centre half and responding with four cracking goals. Had a interesting chat with former Ammie's full back Rees Welsh after the game and with plenty of beer and good food consumed throughout it made for a really enjoyable day out!
By the way alanb just to remind you that you owe me a fiver next time we meet! I predicted the UK's Eurovision Song Contest entry would finish in the bottom three although it surpassed itself by finishing rock bottom with nil points which is exactly where it deserved to be. I hasten to add that I didn't watch it as probably the last time we had a decent entry was back in 1981 when Bucks Fizz won the competition!

Danny Heffernan clearly hasn't lost his scoring touch since his Salford City days with these four goals against Sandbach United last weekend.

Last home game of the season for Whalley Range AFC this Saturday (29th May @ 2:00 pm) against Warrington Rylands Reserves whose 1st team won the FA Vase at Wembley last weekend by 3-2 against Binfield in what was an excellent advertisement for non league football. Food and drinks will be available and hopefully a fair few goals as well!

Another goal fest this afternoon at a very warm Kings Road ground with Whalley Range trouncing Rylands Reserves by 14-2 and were it not for the woodwork, line blocks and some good saves the score might well have reached 20! Former Ammie Danny Heffernan continued his rich scoring vein with a double hat-trick with Whalley Range and Blacon Youth now locked in what is becoming a fascinating contest for the league title. Great to meet up again with alanb and bester and to partake of the excellent football and food on drink on offer as well as having a lengthy chat with Danny 'Heff' after the game.

All the goals from last weekend. Must have taken a long time to edit that game what with 16 goals being scored!
