Looks like the Red Devils can't afford to stay there and the City Council are suffering huge reductions of government income at the moment and would find it difficult to bail them out. Maybe a swap for the Red Devils to Moor Lane and SCFC to AJ Bell is on the cards.

I believe there is some substance in this rumour about Salford FC and Sale Sharks talking to Salford Council and Peel Holdings ( not an April Fool joke ) about buying AJ Bell stadium ! Where would that leave Salford RU FC with no pitch/stadium to play on, all the Salford Rugby League fans are up in arms about this especially when Peel Holdings refused to sell the ground to them ! I think it would be a good idea as Moor Lane wouldn’t be adequate in size and decent facilities for League 1 although sharing the pitch with a Rugby Union side is never a good idea ! It could be that Peel didn’t sell to Salford RL because they didn’t have a lot of money. Salford council lent them money I believe. it may be true of or false, but it’s not an April fool, because it broke too early. But Gary Neville can’t even find land for a training ground, let alone a new stadium. So as much as the owners want their own ground, with their own stamp on it, that may not be possible. It will probably come down to two choices. Look to invest in the Sale/Salford RL ground, or buy some land outside of Salford and build a new stadium of our own. I really wouldn’t like it if we had to have our ground outside Salford. There’s nothing wrong with the AJ Bell as a stadium and the nightmare traffic issues shouldn’t be too bad now with the new bridge across the canal. We’d probably have better food outlets and be able to park at the ground. Being totally selfish here, I would hope that ST holders get a guaranteed parking spot I sit on the side of the pitch at Moor Lane, and I’d do the same again if we moved there. I like those seats on the changing room side of the stadium. new training ground in irlam 👀

I'm not from the area and I really know nothing about rugby, not a huge game in the States...but if a deal is worked out at AJ Bell Stadium with either the Sale Sharks or the Salford Red Devils, which would team would be the better choice? Who's a bigger club? Who's the better club? Would it help keep peace in the city of Salford if we joined with the Red Devils rather than Sale? Potential to more Salford fans? A announcement was made jointly from the Red Devils and from the Salford City Council today concerning a potential sale of AJ Bell (link below). www.salfordreddevils.net/a-joint-statement-regarding-the-aj-bell-stadium-2/The smart answer would be Salford. I used to be a big rugby league fan, but would rather watch Sale if I had the choice. I prefer union these days. But the council have bailed Salford out more than once and it probably has to end at some point. The idea of us doing a swap with Salford RL is an intriguing one. It does seem to make sense. Reading that link, it seems strange that Salford RL now want to make a bid to buy the stadium, but they can’t afford their rent. So any bid from them looks doomed to fail. I assume this is a desperate attempt from them to stay at the AJ Bell? I wonder if we are looking to buy it, whether GN could then get a rent for Moor Lane from Salford RL?

www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/battle-aj-bell-stadium-sale-20344563Salford RL are obviously the poor relations in this alleged contest for ownership of the A J Bell. If Sale Sharks are successful in their bid I can't see Gary Neville allowing them to take all the revenue from food and drink sold at the stadium as they presently do in the event of us playing there. It would have to be an equal split even if we were tenants and not the outright owners. I would personally prefer to see both Salford clubs sharing the facilities rather than seeing the rugby league side forced out into the wilderness. I'm sure we've got the financial clout to buy the stadium if we want to. I suppose it depends if GN would deem it money well spent against any other possible cheaper options.

It’ll be a sad day for me if Sale Sharks buy the AJ Bell as I can’t see that ending well for Salford RL. It’s an upsetting state of affairs when the club can’t afford to own it’s own ground.
Rugby League is such a great game but there doesn’t seem to be the interest there once was. Nowt to do with our football club of course but the demise of The Willows was a loss to Salford.

Sale are saying they will leave if they aren’t allowed to buy it. Perhaps we will go to the council and Peel and put forward a proposal to allow RL to stay at the ground and boot Sale out? That would be a win-win for the town.

I watched Salford in the 70s. The Willows would be full every week and the atmosphere was fantastic. Arguably, they had they best team at that time. David Watkins, Keith Fielding, Chris Hesketh, Colin Dixon to name a few. I went back a few years later when the ground was pretty empty and they were getting absolutely thumped every week. It wasn’t fun. The Willows was old and it was probably right it was knocked down. But Salford are going through a resurgence of sorts right now and it would be a shame if they didn’t have a home. Perhaps GN will put forward a better plan than Sale and buy the ground. If he can guarantee a home for RL, it could sway the council.

Very good read...like everyone else has said, if we make the RL a part of our future picture at AJ Bell I think the council will be in our favor. I'm sure we have the money to purchase out right as long as Peter Lim is still in the picture, maybe we allow the RL to rent from us?

Something has to give. The rugby team can’t pay their rent I believe? Being charged the highest rent in RL doesn’t help! That stadium was built for us due to being made to leave the willows because of SL license conditions (which were kicked into touch a few years later) and now people trying to kick us out !!!

If we were to consider a move to the AJ Bell Stadium (or Salford Community Stadium to give it its original name) there is no way that Salford City FC would force Salford Red Devils RL out and into homelessness. That is a fact! There is also absolutely no chance that we would ever contemplate moving out of the City of Salford and into somewhere like Gigg Lane (Bury FC's former stadium).
