There has been a report in The Sun (I know!) but also on the Rugby sites, that Sale Sharks & Salford City FC are in advanced talks with Salford Council & Peel to purchase the AJ Bell Stadium. Presumably Salford Rugby would become paying tenants. Certainly scope for progress at AJ but right across the other side of the City of Salford.

So we’d be playing footy on a rugby pitch. Brilliant!

And it’s a right pain to get to and from being so close to the M60 and Trafford Centre. Hopefully it’s an April Fools joke

I've thought wondered when this was going to happen for years now...as I've read about on other sites the Sale Sharks wouldn't be the issue but the union games that would tear up the pitch, any truth to that?
Seating is more than twice the size and expandable for the future, location i assume would be good with all that's right across the river, are training grounds on site an option? That might be worth the change alone.

I don’t mind where we play to be honest. That ground has better facilities and the new bridge should make it better to get to and from. They could also offer preferential parking for ST holders. I’m not precious about the ground. Just the potential stake the pitch could be in.

All just speculation at the moment and nothing concrete to support the statement. Moor Lane is fit for purpose for League One football and that's it unless there are some dramatic improvements which seem highly unlikely. Given that Sale Sharks Rugby Union have the naming rights to the stadium for a number of years coupled with their unsuccessful bid to build a new ground close to TGI's Friday on the Stretford/Sale border it's unlikely that they are going anywhere at present. Knowing Gary Neville (not personally) I can't see him being beholden to anyone so the thought of Salord City FC playing second fiddle to Sale is highly unlikely particularly given his past statements that we would never move to the AJ Bell. I used to go there a few years ago as a Salford RL season ticket holder and while impressed with the seated main stand where I went the view from behind the sticks was bloody awful. If we were to move then I would see Moor Lane remaining as a football ground which would be used by the academy and women's teams with maybe an artificial pitch being installed for use by the community. While I would prefer to stay at Moor Lane a move elsewhere wouldn't phase me providing the fans experience wasn't compromised and let's not forget that the AJ Bell which has a present capacity of 12,000 has the capability of being extended to 20,000. Think I'll take a drive down there over the weekend just to see how things have changed regarding accessibility etc although it's unlikely we'll be considering a move there for some time yet even though Salford Council would probably welcome us with open arms.

I doubt Moor Lane will serve us well in League 1. Crowds will be even bigger. I don’t think it would cope well with a full house.

I believe there is some substance in this rumour about Salford FC and Sale Sharks talking to Salford Council and Peel Holdings ( not an April Fool joke ) about buying AJ Bell stadium ! Where would that leave Salford RU FC with no pitch/stadium to play on, all the Salford Rugby League fans are up in arms about this especially when Peel Holdings refused to sell the ground to them ! I think it would be a good idea as Moor Lane wouldn’t be adequate in size and decent facilities for League 1 although sharing the pitch with a Rugby Union side is never a good idea !

according to plenty of people on twitter we are in the process of purchasing the Irlam Steel grounds as a new practice pitch which we desperately need. From what I can tell it's in close proximity to AJ Bell but that could just be a coincidence.

It could be that Peel didn’t sell to Salford RL because they didn’t have a lot of money. Salford council lent them money I believe. it may be true of or false, but it’s not an April fool, because it broke too early. But Gary Neville can’t even find land for a training ground, let alone a new stadium. So as much as the owners want their own ground, with their own stamp on it, that may not be possible. It will probably come down to two choices. Look to invest in the Sale/Salford RL ground, or buy some land outside of Salford and build a new stadium of our own. I really wouldn’t like it if we had to have our ground outside Salford. There’s nothing wrong with the AJ Bell as a stadium and the nightmare traffic issues shouldn’t be too bad now with the new bridge across the canal. We’d probably have better food outlets and be able to park at the ground. Being totally selfish here, I would hope that ST holders get a guaranteed parking spot I sit on the side of the pitch at Moor Lane, and I’d do the same again if we moved there. I like those seats on the changing room side of the stadium.

I stand on that side and selfishly the terracing is behind the goals at AJB so it would be a step back for me but I'd get used to it I guess. A move is inevitable at some stage but like you I'd rather it wasn't outside Salford.

I'm not from the area and I really know nothing about rugby, not a huge game in the States...but if a deal is worked out at AJ Bell Stadium with either the Sale Sharks or the Salford Red Devils, which would team would be the better choice? Who's a bigger club? Who's the better club? Would it help keep peace in the city of Salford if we joined with the Red Devils rather than Sale? Potential to more Salford fans? A announcement was made jointly from the Red Devils and from the Salford City Council today concerning a potential sale of AJ Bell (link below). www.salfordreddevils.net/a-joint-statement-regarding-the-aj-bell-stadium-2/
