Salford outplaying Morecambe all the way but we still cannot get that all important second goal. Minutes left to play. Hunter comes on. HUNTER SCORES!!! Happy birthday Ashley.

Decent game to watch, a more than pleasing performance from the youngsters, and particularly nice to see a home win! Totally bossed the first half with keeper Will Evans a virtual spectator while Morecambe had their keeper to thank for producing two outstanding saves until our pressure finally told in time added on before half-time with James Wilson blasting in from close range following an excellent build up. Wilson looked to have taken heed of my comments about him after the Forest Green game and certainly looked lively throughout. The visitors had little to lose after the re-start and did look more threatening with Bruno Andrade heading off the goal line but from there on a combination of youth and experience combined exceptionally well to blunt Morecambe's hopes of a comeback. While our slender one goal margin looked reasonably comfortable Ash Hunter finally sewed up the points with a very well drilled low shot just inside the post following a perfectly placed cross from Andrade which served to underline the need for a decent final ball which perhaps wasn't always the case in an overall energetic and very workmanlike display from everyone involved.

... and for those fans who didn't have the pleasure of watching the match, I'd add that we might have had a VERY early goal. Right from kick off Morecambe messed up a pass and Salford went charging goalwards in possession of the ball and - had one of our players (sorry didn't catch who it was) not been felled just outside the box - we could have had a goal within about 13 seconds of the game starting. The Morecambe player who brought down our rapidly advancing player got yellow-carded ... after just 11 seconds of play. That must be up there with the records for 'earliest yellow card in a match.'!
PS: I just checked. The fastest yellow card was given to Vinnie Jones (3 seconds in!). Why am I not especially surprised at that fact?

PPS: I just watched the highlights. And it's obvious that it all happened faster than I thought. And I now reckon that we could have scored a goal within 8 seconds of the start! And - the ref was already rushing across, waving his yellow card, on about 8.5 seconds after the starting whistle. And it was James Wilson who was fouled. ... I just like to get things right.
