Yeah, so I can't really comment on the Grimsby game as I was at Whalley Range AFC's ground: ACTUALLY BEING THERE, WATCHING A FOOTBALL MATCH THAT WAS TAKING PLACE IN FRONT OF ME! Or was it a dream?
However, we were able to 'see' Salford's great win - as it happened - as we were furtively following the game on a phone screen, as we stood on the touchline at Whalley Range. 'The Grimsby experience' on Jan 1st this year was terrible; but just how great would it have been to have been a Salford supporter physically in attendance at Grimsby's ground today, eh?!
I've just read Grimsby Town's own official report on the match and the bit that leapt out at me was where the writer said that: "... Salford were clinical and showed why they are among the early-season favourites to earn promotion from League Two." 'Salford... clinical' When did we last hear those two words in close proximity? Wow, we are coming on!

An afternoon clearly dominated by penalty kicks or penalties that should/shouldn't have been. Our first was for a foul on Hendo which I had to look at on a number of occasions because it looked a very soft decision. The replay shows their defender getting a touch on Hendo's boot. A tad harsh on Grimsby but I ain't complaining. Grimsby's claims for a penalty were completely unfounded as their player clearly dives with absolutely no contact from Ash Hunter. Our second penalty baffled our commentary team but I think it was for a Grimsby player handling the initial shot just inside the 18 yard box rather than anything to do with the subsequent challenge on Brandon Asante and the same player should have definitely been awarded a penalty when he was clearly brought down when going for the ball. Our third penalty award was a no brainer with the home defender all over Towell with the referee then applying the letter of the law by sending the Grimsby man off. Special mention again for Vass in goal who was in top form again but nearly blotted his copybook if not for Ash Eastham producing a 'Howson-esque' type clearance off the goal line to save his blushes.
