As we are not going to be getting to live away games anytime soon, it was nice to meet up at a non-league game today at Whalley Range AFC along with Richard, Alan and Matt ! It was a thoroughly entertaining match which Whalley Range won 8-2 or was it 7-2 we lost count and there was good food and drink to be had in front of a crowd of a 100 or so ! We will definitely get in more non-league away games when Salford are playing away and on a day when Salford get an opening away game win 4-0 at Grimsby ! Come on the Ammies lets go ! ! !

What an absolute perfect day today. A 4-0 away stuffing to put Grimsby in their 'plaice' and a thoroughly entertaining afternoon at Whalley Range v Hartford in the Cheshire League 2nd Division - the third tier - with the home side running out 8-2 winners in a game where they could, and should have, scored at least five more goals. It was great to meet up with pre Class of '92 Salford players, Rob Kinsella (Whalley Range Manager), Jimmy Holden (Assistant) and Danny Heffernan and Josh Bardsley. With perfect weather, a cracking clubhouse, a burger shop and drinking allowed outside it was good to also meet up with fellow Red Ammies posters alanb, bester and salfordslim for a few bevvies and football chat. Nice touch as well at the final whistle when Rob Kinsella came over to us and shook all our hands. NB - Hand cleaner was available foc to those who wanted it! Incidentally Danny Heffernan scored the second goal from the penalty spot and Rob Kinsella - who came on late in the game with Jimmy Holden - set up Whalley Range's last goal. Really looking forward to seeing the Grimsby highlights tonight with my prediction of 3-0 to us almost being correct. No hangover from Everton then - just the opposite in fact!

With us away at Stevenage this coming weekend I'll be making my way to the Salford Sports Village on Littleton Road to see the Manchester League Premier Division fixture between Beechfield United versus Heywood St James, kick off 3:15 pm, on a 4G pitch which is level 11 on the football pyramid (level 7 in non-league). Beechfield are of course Salford based and have provided us with mascots in the past from their junior teams while Heywood are my adopted favourite Manchester League side. The fact they play in tangerine shirts and black shorts has absolutely nothing to do with anything!
Interesting also to see that previous 'Salford Away Days' hosts Whalley Range beat Nantwich Town reserves at home last Saturday by 9-1 and not surprisingly sit top of the league after four games having scored 28 goals and conceded 6.

Slightly ashamed to say that I didn't go to the match mentioned in the above post as the thought of standing at the Salford Sports Village complex in the pouring rain without any cover at all really didn't appeal so I visited a few local record stores instead and picked up a few cheesy 70's covers LP's, an American pressing of Pilot's first album as well as an LP by a well known entertainer who always had the p*ss taken out of him by Morecambe and Wise. I'm sure alanb will know who I mean!
