I remember that lad playing for Chelsea a few years back. Would definitely be an engine for us in midfield.

I am not close with any of the players; however, as far as I can recall, there was talk of Nottz wanting to go at the end of last season when there was interest in him from teams in higher leagues. It is my understanding that the club convinced him to stay out his contract to review his situation in a year's time (which is now). If true, I hope Nottz can find himself a decent club if he's now a free agent, having potentially lost a 'bigger' move.
I think Bacon is right, though. He has looked unsettled this season, especially in the latter half of the campaign. I just hope we find a better replacement, otherwise we'll be rueing his departure (on the flip side, the fickle nature of football and football fandom suggests that if we get a better full back, then we will retrospectively see it as the right and 'only' decision).
Ultimately, we should all wish him well. He was phenomenal in his first season to the club and has been a great servant over his two year spell. He's also a really nice bloke.

I suspect any possible departure of Nottz may well be in the Jay Lynch or Simon Grand mould. Although I'm very much in agreement with Mozzer's last sentence in the above post.

Most sincerely agree with this post, Mozzer,... especially your last line. Michael lives not far from me and I've bumped into him in the street a couple of times and had the pleasure of talking with him at length. He's a top guy. But - and I'm speaking beyond my remit here - I would have thought that he would have been more at home as a mid-fielder/attacker than as a full back.

I thought that Nottz has been playing out of position all season. I agree much better suited to an attacking role.

The lads played his whole career at right back Last season the number of goals he scored together with the amount of assists confirm to me that he played more in the role of an attacking wing-back as opposed to an out and out full-back. He doesn't appear to have been given quite as much licence to roam this season as last.

Which in turn has led to us being more defensively stable to be able to win so many games by the odd goal but to suggest he’s anything other than at best an attacking full back isn’t right.

I agree with irobbo here. I don't see Notts as anything but a right back, albeit an attacking one, who can fill in at centre half when required. A lot of his goals came from him coming up from corners and free kicks, rather than open play. His height obviously being an advantage at set plays.
Regardless, we'll no doubt find out one way or another if he's going at some point in the near future. If he does go, we need to find a replacement at least equal to him, if not better, otherwise we'll be having the Jay Lynch-Max Crocombe debate all next season.

A certain Mr Carrick hangs up his boots on Sunday. Wonder if he can be tempted in stepping down a "couple" of levels to pull the strings for his old team-mates?😊
