Not long back from York tonight with an excellent 1-0 victory more than compensating for the usual M62 closures on the way back and the subsequent sight seeing tour of Leeds City Centre! You've really got to admire the battling qualities of the young Ammie's who after surviving a couple of big scares early on took a somewhat surprise lead just before the half-time break with their first serious effort of the half when Mani Ogunrinde capitalised on a defensive blunder to run clear of the defender before steering the ball past the keeper as he raced out to clear. OK so it was against the run of play but there was no denying the quality of the finish. Salford looked a much sharper attacking force after the break and a couple of well struck shots just missed the target as they continued to press at regular intervals. York countered with some neat build up play of their own with their main threat being an aerial one although a couple of goalmouth scrambles nearly saw them equalise. The Ammies's appeared to grow in confidence defensively as the evening wore on despite York pushing forward in numbers and looked to break whenever possible. After what seemed an age of added on time the final whistle was greeted with joyous celebration and the lads deservedly took their applause from the Salford contingent present. Another thoroughly entertaining evening and a performance to be rightly proud of. Can't wait for the draw to see where it takes us!
